H7arris Government Back, Cons tÎtutional Challengae! Solicitor-General Robert Runcimans office announced today, that Ontario would j7oin Aberta, 1Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Yukon, in a constitutional challenge to Bill C-'68, the controversial gun control leg- isiation. This is welcome-news to sport shooters across Canada and shows the prac- tical, common sense approach of the Harris Govrnmnt.Bill C-68 has been widely regarded as an impractical, expensive solu- tion to a non-existent prob- lem. Allan Rock's legislation seeks to -place draconian restrictions on legal firearmns owners, while failing to prop- erly address the criminal mis- use of fireairms. The bill also places severe limits on the rights of Canadians to own property and the right of free- dom from unreasonable search and seizure. The fed- eral government of Jean Cretien ignored the protests of millions of Canadians and rammed the bill through the House, despite vigorous oppo- sition from Liberal M.P.s. The Sportsman's Alliance applauds such a bold, well thought out initiative. Well, perhaps not the world, but thats whats on the minds of the players on six (couint *emn, six!). Orono) soc- cer teams that made it to the Darlinigton Youth Soccer Club championships held in Tyron e on Saturday, September 2 1. AND, not onhy did six teams qualify for the day long series of champi- onship games, they all won! With soccer registrations at an ahl time high, it was truly an amazing year for these kids. Players, coaches, and assistant coaches have given it their best and IDattled it out since May to become the top teams in Darlington. The lexcitement was infec- tious game after game as each subsequent encounter chalked up another Orono victory. It was an unprece- dented season with ail our Ororto teams putting forth such a tremendous effort. Between the beautiful Tyrone fiehds and the excellent weather conditions, it was truly a great day for the play- ers and their friends and fam- ilies. There was somne super soccer being played and after watching the players skills and teamwork improve over the last few months, it's no wonder soccer is becoming more and more popular among our young people. With, the Darlington Soccer Club dating back many, maniy years, it looks like we' are witniessing a resurgence in popularity of soccer with the youth in this area. Also, for the first time, Darlington Youth Soccer Club, is holding a indoor soccer league this year from November, to March. Watch for details! No, of course Orono isn't the soccer- capital of the world, but to these players wýho have shown the determi- nation and perserverence to complete the -season so suc- cessfully, itjust may feel that way. Many thanks to ail the coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers who take the tîme to help mold our kids into such great players. On that Saturday, a par-' ent was heard saying, -If a team is also- having fun, they'll do well". I guess we can rest assured that our Orono play'ers were reallv having a great Urne!
