After registering at the tent that had been' set up on the west side of the Newcastle Gordon Jose, the cook, and John Roszkiewicz and George Schroor, two of his helpers, were kept busy cooking up and serving the pancakes to the multitude of people who attended the Fireman's Pancake Breakfast that was heid in the Newcastle Lung Association offers Asthma Outreach Program The Lung Association Durham Region offers a two- part ASTHMA OUTREACH PROGR.AM at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital on Mondays, October 21 and October 28 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Classes are FREE and Communîty Hall the partici- pants set off on one of the 5K or 10OK routes throughout the village of Newcastle. It truly was a nice day for a brisk walk. Admission-will be $4.00 per person at the door. The Fall Festival that took place in downtown Newcastle on Saturday, October 5th was the place tobe. There was sormething for teveryone. Thiere were several craft yen- dors both inside and out at thie Newcastle Community Hall. There was a dunk tank whiich was manned by mem- bers of the, lst Newcastle Scouting, movement and a bean bag toss which was mun by the Newcastle Pathfinders. If you were hungry you could purchase a hot dog and pop for a loonie at the Barbeque that was outside the local I.G.A. Ail proceeds from the sale of the hot dogs and pop will be donated to the Newcastle Public School play- ground fu nd. There was country music courtesy of the "Down In The Corner Gang" members Steve, Beyý, Bonnie and Bruce. The group played and sang a variety of songs. They even had a caler for the ones in the crowd who did a few sets of square dancing. The favourite songs that got' Bowmanviile Hospital. The younger chîldren had fun too with their entries in the Children's bicycle decorating contest.' Each child who entered received a loonie. Congratulations go out to Marshall Megahy, Patrick Leblanc, Olivia Jenkins, Katie Cringle, Heather Dewsbury, Jessica Megahy, Suzanne Pasquet, Devon Worsley, John Niles, Sandra Nules, Jeremny Cringle and Cody Worsley the winners of the bike decorating contest. There were 10 entrants in the pie eating contest and they ai had a really good Urne and it showed ail over their faces. Congratulations go out to Matt Flower, Peter King and John Cringle the three lucky winners. The highlight of the day was when it was Urne for the bed race, There were eight entnies this year. The street was lined up with spectators on both sides who cheered on their favourite team. This year's lucky winner was the Newcastle Firemen with the team from the local I.G.A. coming in with a very close second. To bring the festivities to a close there was a dance that was held in the Newcastle Community Hall from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. It truly was a day that was fun and full of activities for one and all.
