6 Orono Weekly Turnes, Wednesday, October 30, 1996 Mural On- Orono Arena Wall Courtesy 0f Mosport Orono Arena looks a littie bnigbter with the new mural that now adomns the south wall of the ice pad. A gift of Mosport Park, the mural depiets scenes from the various sports that the Orono Athietie Association is involved in (it is even politically correct; there are exactly four maies and four females shown in the mural). The mural was painted by Glenn Johnson, who does ail of Mosport's signs at the park. Here in the picture is Myles Brandt, track manager at Mosport, and the contact person which made the mural a reality. The St. Marys cernent Juveniles have a tie and a loss in two recent gaines against Markham and Orillia. The Toro Juveniles hosted Markham on Oct.. 14 and only a late goal by the Markham teain with just 33 seconds left on the dlock stopped them froin coin- ing away with the win. The Toros scored the only goalof the first period when Greg McMuirter scored an unas- sisted goal 61 seconds before the end of the period. In the second peiiod howev- er, Markham struck tw;ce to take a 2 - 1 lead into the final period. The gaine seemed to be winding down for a Markham win when Paul Lavallee struck for two goals in 3 minutes to take the lead before the visitors tied if up. McMurter also drew Armstrong IGA Pee Wee's pulled off a lopsided win against Roîpli Novice Hardware in a home gaine October 26. They played a strong gaine offensive- ly and a smart gaine defensive- ly and came out 7- 1 winners. They were up 2 - 0 at the end of the first on goals by # 14 Dan Tresise, assisted by #75 Mike Knapp, and #4 Rick Howe assisted by #15 Scott Wood. On the blue line, Robinson and Rypstra and Wood with Moore and Lofgren kept Novico down in shots and off the scoreboard. Kennedy in net, made some, great saves with lis glove and kept Novico frusfrated. Ben Currie had several chances either just missing the net or putting if off the post. Nathan Gylytiuk worked the boards well and kepf the Novico wingers in check. The scoring continued for Orono in the third with Howe scoring bis forth at 13:30 an assist. The gaine played against Orillia was a wide open affair with the visitors finally winning 8 -7. The Toros, playing with- out some of their regular play- ers could not get ahead in this gaine finding themsQlves down 2 - 0, 6 - 2 and 8- 4 before putting together a lasf period rally scoring 3 times to make it close at the end. Costumes are safest when they are flame-proof or fire resistant, light coloured, and equipped witb reflective tape on both the front and back. Make- up is the most preferable mask as other kinds tend to obscure vision. If your cbild insists on wearing mask, enlarge the eye holes so that (she can see in ahl directions. Make sure your cbild isn't going to trip over the costume and enco urage huma or her to walk in a pair of sturdy shoes. Riding a bike is neyer a good idea, costumes have a way of getting caught in the spokes. Make--believe props such as knives ai-d swords are not rec- ommended either, they can injure your child in a fail or hurt someone else. Every child should carry a flashlight to belp drivers see thein as they walk along the street. Trick-or-treaters should walk on sidewalks whenever possible. Avoid walking betweeni parked cars, running across yards or throuigh emiipty parking lots. Trick-or-treat on onie side of the street and then cross safely fth le other side. Make sure your kids eat din- ner before they go out gala- vanting. T'his waythey won't be seduced into eating any sweets before you've had an opportunity to sort through the candy.
