OronoWeekly Tinies, Wednesday, November 6, 1996 - 5 WITHRIDGE STEERS FAMILY AUTO TO 4TH LEAGUE WIN The OMHA Bantam Orono Family Auto Leafs defeated the visiting Sunderland Wings 8-3 in league action Sunday November 3. It was.the Leafs 4th wln in 7 starts this season. The game was deadlocked at 2- 2 after two periods of play. Orono exploded for 6 third peri- od goals led by Bob Witheridge's hat trick (his 5th, 6th, & 7th) and a 4 point effort from for- ward Ryan Tresise. Winger Kyle Beacock chipped in with a pair and cousin Andrew got his 1 st of the season on the power play. Shots favoured Orono by a 29- 19 margin. The leafs are on the road Wednesday November 6th at Ops ta take on the Flames. Next Leaf home game is Sunday November 8th at 6:00 PM. See you there! Sunderland was first on the scoreboard late in the first peri- od. Justin Szymchak tied the game 1 - 1, assisted by Kienan Williams and Jeif Mercier. Ten seconds later, Nathan Caruana put Accessible Design ahead 2 1, when he put in his own rebound, assisted by Jesse Price and Jordan Beacock. Sunderland roared back ta tie the game 2 -2. Chrîs Moffat set up Szymchak for the go-ahead goal late in the second period. However, never-say-die Sunderland lied the game 3 - 3, midwvay through the third peri- od. One minute later, Kyle Allin and Jeff Mercier combined ta set up Szymchak who scored ta' give Orono the lead once more. With two minutes left in this very close game, Orono was forced ta kili a tripping penalty. Sunderland tried ta make the most of thîs opportunity, but Szymchak scored his fourth goal of the night, on a short- handed play, assisted by Nathan Caruana. Accessible Design ended this fine performance with a well- deserved 5 - 3 victory. Paunel Duiscussi*on tribute to Pee Wee Victory o Workfare Armstrong IGA Pee Wee's played their first away game at the Rickard Complex, Bowmanville on Tuesday, Oct. 29th. They looked strong as they came out against Reynolds Plumbing. Orono took an early lead with #99 Howe bringing the puck out frain behind the net and tucking it in the corner. Assisting on the goal was # il Scott Wood and # 17 Will Lofgren. At mid ice, Moore showed his defensive skill by making a great body check to save a shot on net by Reynolds. Orono toak a "toa many men" penalty at 11:10 but you couldn't tell they was playing short, the way #93 Ben Currie was flying up the ice, attacking the net. Kennredy in net made a good save at the end of the penalty but Reyniolds were able ta ie. the gane with a trickler at 7:07. Orono reg,ained the lead as Robinison let onie of h-is rack- ets go and Hlowe deflected it past the goalie at 44 seconds. Wêpd also assisted on this goal. Re~Nolds tied] the game at the l1.izzer and the second period began at 2 - 2 tie. Opening the second period, #3 Jake Bonetta was robbed of a breakaway by a questionable offside cal. Wood, Dejong and Howe combined for a nice scor- ing play, but couldn't put it away. Dan Tresise was tripped as he headed in the opponents zone, so Orono played a man up. Pritchard on the point toak a nice shot on net but it was # 10 Mike Knapp from Tresise who broke the tie at 6:40. Knapp put it away on the short side, threading the needle beau- tifully., Orono kept the pressuire on with Robinson carrying the puck in and letting a backhand' go which just missed the top of the net. Adami Rypstra picked up a loose puck and had a close encounter with the goalie. Kennedy got some work as Reynolds put on the pressure but a steal by Howe and #8 Shawn Dejong being in the night place put Orono up by 2 at 2:40. The third period was score- less despite shots froin #4 Nathan Gylytuk and #88 Brad Wood, and Orono notched up their 2nd win of the season. Their record us now 2 - 1. Orono Atom Rep Team - Accessible Design, Accessible Design. the Orono Atom Rep Te am, played an exciting gaine against a strong Bobcaygean team on Friday Nov. 1, 1996. Orono played a strong g first period, success- fully killing six minutes of penalties ta keep the gaine scoreless. The ref s decided ta even things up by giving Bobcaygeon three two-minute penalties in the second period. Despîte saine nice work on the point of defencemian Chris Moffat, Accessible Design was unable to capitalize on their pawer play opportunities. Late in the second period, Bobcaygeon broke the scoreless game while short-handed. Accessible Design really applied pressure during the final four minutes of the game. However, Bobcaygeon scored on einpty- net goal with 36 seconds remaining in the gaine, ta pu t this well-played game ta bed. Final score 2 - 0 for Bobcaygeon. Orono Accessible Design travelled to Sunderland on a blustery Saturday Nov. 2, 1996.
