In the previous game the Toros prevailed by a 5-2 score how- ever, this time the Whitby team came out on top. The Toros came out like gangbusters and took a 1 -0 lead 33 seconds into the game on a nice goal by Ian Sinclair, who beat the Whitby goalie with a quick wristshot to the glove side! Blake Aylsworth put another one between the pipes later in the first period at 13:22. This was however, the only scoring the Toros would do this niglit as Whitby came back in the second with two goals at 1:31 and 4:46 to tie the game. NO SILVER STICK FOR HOLIDAY INN November 8 ai Darlingion Oshawa 3 Toros 1 1The Silver Stick qualifier tourniament began on the niglit of November 8th for the Holiday Inn Major Bantam Toros. The Toros took on a fast skating Oshawa squad and the teams were pretty well evenly matched until the thîrd peniod. Oshawa scored at 2:22 and then Adam Barrabal lied it up for the Toros at 4:34 on a nice move that completely fooled the Oshawa goalie. Ten seconds later however, Oshiawa pulled ahead again to stay. The Toros pulled their goalie in the last minute but, Oshawa potted an empty netter witli 48 seconds left on the dlock to prevail 3-1. November 9 ai Garnet Riokard ai 1:00 p.m. Ajax 4 Toros 4 Saturday afternoon saw the Toros take on Ajax but, this time the Toros were able to sal- vage a 4-4 tie to remain in con- tention. Due to a death in the family the President Judy Hagerman was absent so Irene Konzelmann took charge of the meeting. After a delicous din- ner enjoyed by 13 members and five guests, Barbara Hicks introduced the speaker Phillippa Schiegelow. Pillippa Schiegelow spoke about Annie E.C. Highbee who lived in the house Phllippa Schîegelow ha s lived in for 20 years. This old house is across the street from the Anglican Church in Newcastle. Annie E.C. Highbee became one of the first female doctors in Ontario, practiced in Peace River to travelers and natives, returned to Ontario, practiced in Newcastle, went to Burlington to live with her son after lier husband died and died in a rest home in Milton wlien she was nearly 101 years old. Years ago women were not accepted on Colleges or medical schools. It was not until 1880 that Victoria College in Cobourg admitted women. In 1852 Emily Stowe became first female principal of a school and in 1864 graduated from a med- ical scliool in New York and practiced medicine illegally in Toronto. Barbara Hicks thanked the speaker and pre- sented lier witli a gift. The Bowmanville Business and Professional Club will miss one of our members.
