Orono Weekly 'Fmes, Wednesly Jnay8, 1997 -5 Kinsmen Minor Bantam Toros Lose in Semi-Final On December 28, 29 and 30, Claington hosted the annual Christmnas Classic Hockey Tournament. The Kinsmen Minor Bantai Toros completed their round robin action with- out a loss, 1 win and 2 ties. The first game for the Toros was against Pickering, a rival from league play and the game proved to be another hard fought close battle with the Kinsmen winning 4-3. Their second gaine was also against another familiar team, the Richmond H ill Stars. This game was an excellent hockey gaine wlth numer ous chances at both ends. The gaine was tied after 3 periods and a 3 minute overtime solved nothing as the game ended notched at 3-3. Due to the results of other divisional play, and the tie breaker rules, Richmond Hill would finish ahead of the Toros in the event of a tie so the Toro's last round robin gaine was more for prude than anything else. The opposition was< St. Catherines who have not eamned a win to this point of the tournament. The game was a hard hitting affair with good scoring chances. The Kinsmen had a 3-1 lead a one point but watched the 2 goal lead disap- pear as St. Catherines was determined not to go home without a point. The game ended in a 3-3 tie with each team having their chance to win it in overtime. The Minor Kinsmen Toros would now meet the Kanata Squad in a semni-final matchup. The Kanata team (the eventual tournament champions), proved to be too much for the Kinsmen to handie as they out- skated, outshot and outplayed the home squad on route to a 6- 2 vlctory and a birth in the final game. The Toros can enter 1997 with their heads held high as they were beaten by a better teain and hope they can con- tinue to play the kinci of hock- ey in the new year that they dis- played in the Christmnas Classic.
