The Apple Blossom club has become one of the best defen- sive clubs in the league! The Apple Blossom battled James Insurance who are one of the top ranked teams in the league. Mike Howe did a great job in the net. Defensive partners Brian Konopka, Jonathon Koerssen and Daniel Rellly, Lucas Szemlot were very tough on the blue line. The Orono offense played their positions weil and played a great two way game. The first period was score- less. James Insurance managed to get three goals and Orono retaliated midway in the third period. The goal was scored from the blue line by Lucas Szemiot from Greg Howe and Daniel Heilly. The final score was 3-1 Bowmanville. The other contributing mem- bers of the dreami team were: Paul Bridger. Chris Buttonshaw, Emma Lunn', Garrett MacDonald, Heather Maland, Jonathen Picco, Mark Spiers, Adam Wood. Frank Maitland, Harry Koerssen, and Rlck Howe did a nice job behind the bench. Early into the 3rd period Chad Delghton took due Toroes to the lcad 2-1 wlth an unas- slsted goal. At 3 p.m. they piayed a rescheduled game vs Remax and looked like they had had too much New Years partying as they floated to a 5-2 loss. Orono's goals came from B. Wood assisted by J.P. Pisani and S. Wood from Pisani and Pritchard. Even though 5 goals werc scored on Kennedy in net, he playcd a great game and got the lst Star nod. After a haif an hour rest and and hour practice the boys stepped back out on the ice to play Newcastle in exhibition. With the rivalry in place Orono rose to the occasion and won an 8-3 vlctory. Orono hit the ice in a hurry anxious to begin the lst game of their tourny. Orono came on strong and earned dueir 1lst goal 5 minutes Into the lst period, credit goes to Cam Delorme who was assisted by Ryan Knox. Halfway through the second perlod Orono scored again, the goal eamned by Ryan Knox who was asslsted by Scott Henderson, securing a 2-0 lead. Their opposition, Bowmanvflle's James Insurance scored a goal, closing in on Orono's lead. Unfortunately Bowmanville took it from there -and scored 3 times li the 3rd period to cap- ture a 4-2 win. Orono played well, dlsplaylng lots of resis- tance! The second game proved to be difficuit for Orono Pineridge Insurance. Money Planners simply outskated Orono. Orono suffered a 8-2 loss. Scoring the goals earned for Orono was Cam Delorme who was assisted by Matt Smit and Michael Hisson who was assisted by Doug Deboo. Better iuck next time! The 3rd and finals game, Orono Pineridge Insurance vs. Immaculate Conception proved to be vexy tense! The opposition took the lead with 2 points after due lst perlod, Orono - 0. Orono defiantly scored with 2 minutes left in the second period. Doug Deboo earned the goal on a well-executed break-away! Immaculate Conception scored as the 3rd period commenced and Orono poured on the ener- gy, gaining another point with only 3 minutes left in the game. Scoring for Orono was Brandon West who was assisted by Ryan Knox and Josh McRob, the score now 3-2 for Immaculate Conception.. Knowing there was enough time lefi to score, Orono played in flurry of motion man- aging breakaways and some great shots on net but unfortu- nately the goalie proved to be too much of an obstacle. Orono endured a 3-2 loss but their continuing effort and improve- ment is most definitely applauded! On January 12, Orono Pineridge Insurance played Bowmanville's Liberty Mutual Novice team. In less than 3 minutes into the first period Bowmanville obtained a 2-0 lead. Soon afler, Orono retali- ated - Brandon West flew towards the Bowmanville net and aimed true to score unas- sisted to the top of the second period. Orono gained another point when the diligent duo came into action - Andy Kadykalo who was assisted by Doug Deboo. Scoring again for Orono near the end of the sec- ond period was Johnny Gregg who seized the opportunity to score for his team and was assisted by Doug Deboo. The Orono Pineridge Insurance team and their fans were thrilled with the 3-2 lead. Orono kept the excitement at a high pitch with their numerous shots on net and the speedy breakaways exhibited by defenseman Scott Henderson. Unfortunately, Bowmanville had a lucky break and tied up the game with only 39 seconds lefi. Orono worked very hard and were pleased with the resulting 3-3 tie.
