The idea of the capsule is to leave behind a slice of time to show what some people from 1999 and 2000 thought was important. The founidation will be selling boxes to groups and businesses to be put in the, time capsule. The selling of boxes will be a fundraising venture. How the storage facility will be set upbas not been decided yet. One suggestion C Board 1H STUDENT TRUSTEE Board Vîce-chairperson Catharine Tozer welcomed Aaron McNair. the Board's first student trustee. Aaron,ý a Grade 12 Port Hope High School student, was appoint- ed to the position by- the Student enate to represent students across the jurisdic- tion at the Board table. Aarcin addressed the Board and read a Mission Statement he pre- pared for the roue. Aaron will act as the Student Trustee for one semester and another student will be appointed by the Student Senate next semester. BOARD HOME PAGE The Northumberland- Clarington Board of Education officially launched its Board Home Page on the World Wîde Web at last nlght's meeting. Trudy Lum, Superintendent of Program. and.Dave Meldrum, Manager of Computer and Information Services demonstrated Phase 1 of the Page which included the Board's Motto. Mission Statemnent, and Department Services. Links are available to other sites including the Munlclpaltty of Clarington. the County of Northumberland and other related sites. Phase 2 of the implemen- tation is planned to include lnks to ahl schools wlthin the Board's jurlsdiction. The Board beleves that this will be a good way to provide par- ents and communitymem- bers access to information regarding programs and ser- vices offered to students wlth- in the junisdictlon. SMOKING POLICY Trustees approved a motion last nlght to endorse a recommendation from the Brant County, Board of Education which recom- mends amendments to the is to set up a cement vault like a septic tank. Another suggestion would be to set up a steel cylinder, or other substance that would be weather proof. The size of the storage facility would depend on how many boxes were sold. The time capsule would be on the grounds of the Regional headquarter on Rossland Rd. in Whitby. The exact date when the Uime capsule is to be opened would be decided by the Community Foundation of Durham Region hundreds of years from now. CARTER SCHOLARSHIP, RECIPIENTS Through the will of the late J.I. Carter of Sarnia. three scholarships are offered annually to students in a number of selected counties across Ontario, l'ncludlng those from The Northumberland-Clarington Board of Education and the Northumberland and Clarington part of The Peterborough. Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Roman Cathollc Separate School Board. These scholarships are awarded to students obtalning the high- est standing I the two juris- dictions on six OAC credits.
