Feb. 10- Victim was at work at Kirby Public School when suspect an-lved to pick up ber daughter. Victim advised that the daughter was not there. Suspect picked up the phone receiver, when she was told not to use it she slammed it down on victims hand. Victim was also a female. Feb. 11 - Unknown per- sons broke into the Bowmanville LCBO early Wednesday morning. Entry was gained by smashing the front window. It is unknown how many botties were removed at Urne of report. Feb. 11 - -$250,000Oblaze to barn on Prestovale Rd., Courtice killed approx. 55 cattle and 300 pigs. A dozen or so cattie had to be destroyed by officer on scene. Cause of blaze is undeter- mined. Feb. 14 - Police investigat- ed suspiclous vehicle and subsequently followed fresh snowprlnts several hundred metres to an isolated cottage on Lakeshore Rd. Newcastle. Two male youths aged 16 and 17 were arrested inside and charged with trespasslng. Feb. 14 - Purse and I.D. stolen from unlocked veicele on Church St. Orono. Victlm was babysitting overnight. Feb. 16 - Northbound vehicle on Reglonal Rd. 57 south of Conc. 8 lost control on an tcy patch and fllpped over mnto west side ditch. The driver a 52-year old Nesleton resident received minor injuries to his head. The car recelved severe damage. Charges laid. C Nfewcas The Newcastle Lions Club met for their regular meeting, on February 12 in the Lions Room at the Newcastle Community Hall. Twenty- eight Lions and four prospec- tive new members sat down to a deliclous schnltzel dinner prepared by Lion Peter DeJong. Lion President, Terry Graham acted as Chairman. After dinner Lion Murray Paterson întroduced John Clark, a recently establîshed chiropractor in Newcastle and a prospective new member of the Lions Club. John gradu- ated from the Ontario Chiropractie College In 1993 and has since studled acupuncture, in Shrilanka and practiced chiropractic in various places until opening the Clark Chiropractic Clinic in Newcastle last November. John explained the ner- vous system and how chiro- practors are able to relieve many conditions in all parts of the body by manipulatlng the bones to allow the ner- vous system to, work properly. He also demonstrated the use of acupuncture, both with the traditional needle and with the modemn electronic method. Dr. Clark proved that there is no pain involved in the application of this ancient art by treatlng Lion Amos wlth two acupuncture needles in the neck without a whim- per from the patient. Many questions and comments were forthcomning eventually Dr. John was thanked by Lion Mike Swaga and allowed to enjoy the remainder of the meeting. The nomination comn-ttee report was presented and nominations were received from the floor. Club elections for the new Lions year will take place on March 12. The new Lions year commences on July, 1997. %ftIe Lions, Lion George Riekard reported that the 55 Drive Alve program will be spon- sored by the Newcastle'Lions Club. The club will pay 45% of the cost as well as the room to hold the sessions. The Urne schedule has not been set at this time but the program. will take the form of four weekly sessions and will take place later in the Spring. More, information will follow in the local newspapers. Donations were approved to the Northumberland Science Fair and the Ki dney Foundation. Projeet Chairman Lion George Rickard repo rtedý on a possi- ble joint upgrade project on the Community Hall with the Newcastle, Hall Board. This project was approved in prin- cipal and will be discussed with the. Hall Board. Jo Harris from the Canadian Red Cross Society will be the speaker at the next meeting.
