Twenty- four kids from Bowmanville Lberty Youth Bowling Club and the Newcastle Youth League did their best ta raise funids for the Big Brothers Association. Also on hand for the big event was Jim Shaw,. medalist at the 1996 par- olympics in Atlanta, to show his support for the klds. Jlm is this year's honourary chaîrman of the "Bowl for Millions" campalgn. Jim showed the kcids the medals he has won and -answered some pretty tough questions. Anyone wishing to donate money for the campaign can do so by contacting one of the Unit #1,ý U.GC.W. NEWS Gladys Greenwood. Marion Adams and Anne Evans con- ducted the monthly meeting of Unit 1, U.C.W. on Wednesday. February l2th. Roll caîl was a sharlng of Valentine cards, old and new. The study toplc was based on the verse from Corinthians: "Love Is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it Is not proud." Reference was made to Liza Doolttle's speech in "My Fair Lady": "Words, words, I'm tlred of words. If you love me. show me!" This led to a discussion on ways of showng love ta fam- Ily, fellow-workers or people at church. Several revealed that the most dlfficult time to be patient and kind, is in moments of stress or fatigue. Being klnd to one another oflen involves forgîveness. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, the table decor gave a lift ta everyone with its red luncheon plates and servi- ettes. The members were renilnded of the annual meet- ing of the Oshawa Presbyterial on February 26th from 2-9 p.m. at, Hampton United Church. Another upcoming event is the World Day of Prayer ser- vice on March 7th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Savlour's Anglican Church, Orono. followlng: Newcastle - Lynn Donahue - 9817. Ice Effeots Win GoId The Orono Ice Effects Adult Precision skating Teain com- peted in the, Whitby Invitational Competition on February 8, 1997. The Ice Effects skated very well and camne first in the division they were placed In, winnlng a gold medal. The team was please 1 to see a number of-fans from Orono at the competition to cheer them on. 1The Ice- Effects will be trav- elling to Waterloo to compete in the West Ontario Section Adult Competition to be held March 22.
