Feb. 22 for a tournament--totally away from 1ail the teams that they had played before. The first game was a venj spirited game against a teani from North Fr-ontenac sched- uled at .10:30 in the morning. Our boys had a chance to at least wake up and smell the orange juice. The game consisted of quick end-to-end play by both teams. Numerous shots were levelled at Orono goalie Shane Winters. Frontenac's goalie was the player that kept them in the game. At 7:36 of the flrst period, Captain Doug Garlick levelled a bullet shot that flew by the Frontenac goalle to give Orono its first marker of the first period. In the second period the play was mostly in the Frontenac zone which netted captain Doug bis second goal of the gaie. A final goal in the third period by Evan Moore solidi- fied a 3-1 win for Orono. An interesting note to this tournament was a shoot-out that was held after lunch. A shooter and a goalie was cho- sen from each team. Orono's shooter was its captain Doug and goalie Shane Winters. Our boys faired well in the flrst shoot-out with Shane not allowing a shot to get by. Doug and Shane did well to get into the semi-final round, but were beaten out by other luckier players. Th-e second game of the tournament wasn't as much of a success as the first one. Orono played well but was beaten by a quicker, faster Port Hope team. Final score was Port Hope 3, Orono 0. Orono made it through to the 'B' Final--being matched up against a team from Havel ock. Orono set the pace by establlshlng a 2-0 goal lead well into the second peri- od. Havelock finally decided to get aggressive halfway through the second perlod by obtaining a goal that was of questionable origin. Orono had mamntained an aggressive approach toward this team, when nature called upon our goalie Shane Winters--who apparently had consumed a large .quantity of liquid before the garne. The ref s compassion was put to the test when our coaches requested a stoppage in play, so as to allow our goalie a rest-room break. When the game resumed, a refreshed Havelock team made a strong mun at Orono's lead by tieîng it up at 2. Many penalties were assessed to Havelock because of unnecessary roughness. Orono was blessed with a 5 on 3 towards the end of the gaine, but could flot capitalize on it. Great game boys. Orono was awarded the 'B' Flnallst trophy. Final score Havelock 3 Orono 2. Be sure to mark March il on your calendar--so as to see our Novice Rep Teamr in action. at our own tourna- ment. Dufferin Aggregates Major Tyke News GOING ON A TRIP???
