Over elght hundred attended mhe event. Came Sunday, April 6th a similar event is being sponsored by the Ciarington Concert Band wlth the presentatio n of the Cardiff County and Vale Glamorgan Youth Brass Band. The musical evening Is belng held in the Bow- manville Hlgh School commenclng at 6:30 p.m. Admission $5.00 with students and seniors at $3.00. The Youth Band, formed in 1974, comes hlghly recommended featurlng- young players of an average age of 15 years. The band is mhe1 premier band of Cardiff County where the members The members of the Newcastle Optimist Club would like to invite chidldren of ail ages to come to the Easter Egg hunt that they wiil be holding in the Sunset Blvd. Parkette in Newcastle on Saturday, March 29th fromn 10 a.m. until noon. The cost Is $1.00 per child. Please be sure to bring your own egg colecting basket. Everyone is invited to attend the annual Easter morning Service that, is to be held -at the Bond Head Parkette in Newcastle on Sunday. March 30th. The ser- vice which starts promptly at 7 a.m. xiii be followed by a hot breakfast which xiii be served'by the Kendal United Church 'Prayer Group in the are auditioned annually to quaiify as participating members. 1The members have progressed through eight bands before being chosen to play ti the Cardiff County and Vale Gamorgan Youth- Band. The band has piayed in events on the visit of the Queen to Cardiff and has toured in mhe U.S., Canada, Swltzerland, France and a number of other countries. Many of the members from this band wiil advance to the band of the Royal Regiment of Wales which- was In Orono in 1995. The Ciarington Concert Band wiii feature three numbers for the program. Its off to the Bowmanvilie High Schooi come Sunday, April 6th with the program underway at 6:30 p.m. by Roy Forrester basement of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Newcastle. This is an annual ministry of the Clarington East Ministerial. Please mark your calenders now and plan on attending. On Saturday, April Smh the Knights of Columbus wili be holding a dance in the St. Francis of Assisi church hall to help them celebrate the third anniversary of theïr chapter in Newcastle. OBITUARY James Henry Hoy James Henry Hoy beloved husband of the late Jennie Lunn of Kendal and mhe son of the late Henry Hoy and Margaret Moffatt passed away peacefully at Strathaven Lifecare Centre, Bowmanvilie, Ontario on Sunday, March 16, 1997. James was bomn August 15, 1897 in Kendal and was in his lOOth year. On March 10, 1920 James marrled Jennie Lunn who predeceased him June 5, 1947. James farmed in the Kendal area for 43 years retir- ing 35 years ago0. He resided at 28 Miii St., Kendal tii mte age of,95. For the past 4 1/2 years he was a resident of. Strathaven Lifecare Centre, Bowmanville, Ontario. James was a member of Kendai United Church and the Kendai Orange Lodge. In 1918 he served with the Infantry lst Depot Battalion, E-O-R-C-E-F- Regiment. The late Mr. Hoy is sur- vived by his children Archie and his wlfe Veima of Bowmanville, Hazel and hier husband Howard Howson of Peterborough, William and his wife Yvonne of Kendai, Jean and lier husband Robert Stainton of Bowmanviiie, Stanley and his wife Alice of Courtice, Myrtie and ber bus- band John Sarchuk of Scarborough, Helen and hier husband Keith Wood of Kendal, Leonard and his wife Jean of Kendal and mhe late Pearl and hier husband Donald Oke of Los Angeles Califomnia. He will be sadiy- missed by bis 31 grandchii- dren, 54 great-grandchiidren and 4 great-great-grandchiil- dren.. He is predeceased by siblings Mary 'Tottersail, Wiifred, Laverne and Alex Hoy. The funeral service was held March 18, 1997 at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowimanviile, On-tar-io. Officiating ministers were Rev. Ann Foster of Ebenezer/Maple Grove Pastoral Charge and Rev. David Black of Kendal United CHurch. Music was provided by Ross Metcalf, and the eulogy was delivered by James' grand daughter Heather (Hoy) McCieary. Palîbearers were his grand- sons, Neil.
