FROM AROUND HOME by Roy Forrester) Our contact with CBC TV has always been through our television set. Friday afternoon this trend changed when, in person, Marjorie Nichols, Program Director, Hanna Gartner, who you ail well know, camera mani and sound man paid us a visit. t was an interesting and pleasanit hour. 0f course there has to be -a reason for the CBC TV presence in the Village and their undertaking of many interviews and filming over the past number of days. That reason is the pending federal election for which the CBC TV la now preparing program. The program will run from the call of the election to the final vote on election night. Over the past weeks CBC has ,been undertaking a search in Ajax, Pickering and ultimately Orono for a polling area in which the votera have recorded in the past an,ecase in swinging their political support from party to party. Poil 161,. Mill Street Orono, fit the bill and as well the Orono community Wvas noted as a homo- geneous community. The procesa included many phone calîs and as well a thorough on the scene visita. The CBC is currently preparing the opening introduction of the program which will set the 'base opinion' of Poil 161 votera as it exista before the call of the election. It will be presented immnediately following the cali of the election by the Prime Mini,5ter, Jean Chretian. CBC wlll then continue contact with the pre- arranged Poil 161 votera in order to give an update on trends in Orono which could well be happeninig across the nation. . The resuits will be known nation-wide to millions upon millons of Canadians. Due to this Orono survey Iam sure we ail will be more interested in this conteat than any in the past and no doubt[ becomne more knowledgeaMbe as to the issues presented by the five major parties involved. Our eyes wlill be glued to the evening CBC newa .There will be more than the weather to talk about and possibly we could stir- up a little rivalry when in~ the dodxC'town area. Well Orono we have done it again. "Top of ,the fine" voters and no doubt free thinkers. The news of the CBC TV program has certainly bolted thro-Ligh the community in the past couple of days.. The federal liberais were seen in tie Village Monday momning wlth some of their local supporters. One mighit suspect that the word of the CBC programn had reached liberal hiea-dquairters and you juast can't have liberals talkingi( 'of'f-the-cuff' to the CBC uinder these circum- stances. 1 have yet to 'decide if 1 want to see this clip from-i the CBC. After ail its goinig across the nation. -Why did youi stay in Oronio?", 1 was asked. 1 couldn't think of a reason but since have decided it is something that grows on you. 1 was comfortable in school, c-omfortable working with my father and comfortable in this com- munity. "Why change". It was the right>decision. At the beginning of this article 1 did say that the hour with the CBC crew was interesting and pleasant. 1 do have a soft place in my heart for the CBC and if ever we needed a national symbi--ol that need is here to- day. CBC TV and radio is a binding. factor an-d surely is worthy of our support. Thank you CBC çrew - another memorable moment in a lifetime. 1 chuckle what this will, do for Orono. It's ail-a-buzz.
