New season ahead for Orono Tennis Club You say it's somethîng you've thought about doing but just neyer got arouind to it? Well now niight be the Urne to start, or resume, playing some tennis. It's a terrifically energizing sport that you cari play for a lifeUime, and that you'll get better at every year for as long as you keep play- ing. The Orono Tennis Club is located ini Orono Park. It offers farnily, aduit and chil- dren's memberships for $50, $30 and $20 respectlvely. The cost mncludes a minimum of five weeks of lessons wlth qualified nstructors. Members have first priori- ty on the courts at al Urnes, and get -to participate in a number of fun comrpetiUions throughout the season. Al you meet to join them is a memibershlp, a tennis racquet (the club has a few it can lend on a first-come, first-served Iasis) uand a pair of sneakers. The club had approximate- ly 30 advanced, intermediate and begnner adult members last year, and an equal num- ber of children. It's a great place to make some new friends! Members could be found honing their gaines or just knockung the ball about on just about every nighit of the week last summner. The two courts are floodlit until Il p.rmi, giving ample time to get a set or two in. Rain or shine, the club will be holding its registration niight on Wednesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. down at the courts. (There is a sheltered area even if there's a down- pour). Rememnber to take your racquet along, as there'll bc some informal hitting about as well. Bring your children, your friends and your spouse. As hosts of this year's Al Ontario Tournamrent of Champions, the Major Novice Wolves went undefeated in capturing the Ontario Mnor Hockey Association Provincial Championshlp. Clarhington's presence was dominant on this years teani as 6 players representing Cardiac, Enniskillen and Orono played key roles in the teams success. ANIMAL HEALTH WEEK To recognize Animal Health Week, the Clarungton Animal Advisory Comm-ittee in con- junction with the Municipality is sponsoring an Open House at the Clariungton Animal Shetler (Liberty St. just south of the 401) on Saturday, May 10 froni 11: 00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This famnily event will take place rain or, shine. The main higblight will be a Kids & Pets Art Display. Children who are of grade 8 age or younger cars draw a picture or create artwvork (that, can hang up on a wall) illus- trating the theme of Kids & Pets and brung it with them to the Open House before 1 p.m. Their artwork will be dis- played on the walls and they can enter their-- name in a draw to wun a prize. The draw will bc at 1 p.m. First prize drawvn will be a Pony Party. The artwork should be no larger than 8 1/2" x 14". There will be mnany other family acUivities as well: pony rides, photos taken of the children on the ponies, ani- mals from Jungle Cat World and the Bowmanville Zoo, face painting, Sparky fthe tire dlog, lots of prizes, refresh.- mients, demionstrations and inii èrmation booths. It is the aimi of thé commilit- tee to ediicate about respon- sible petowesp in a. fun environmiient. OBITUARY CARSCADDEN Mary Viola She was bom in Manvers Township on Novemiber 12, 1906. She went to Carscadden's School and also Orono. Her parents were Jim and Margaret McRoberts. She was married on July 22, 1932. She married Jack Carscadden. They had three children Bruce, Jean and Edward. She also had grand- children David, Alec, Brenda, Danny ai-d Cindy and also 4 great grandchildren.
