Amang those present were District Governor, Jon Moore, Zone Chairman, John Ogden, Newcastle Lions President, Terry Graham, A3 Lioness President, Bernice Cote, Lioness Liason, Lion Roy Hopkns, and visitors from the following Lioness Clubs, Bowmanville, Cobourg, Frankford, Norwood, Peterborough, and Trenton. The beautifully decorated hall was the perfect setting for the many ladies who arrived with hats of ail styles and age. -Durlng the social get-together time, music was played by Martha Farrow, and punch was served by Lion RB. Rickard. Guests were received at the door by Lioness President Marilyn Martin, Lioness Jean Riekard and Lioness Pauline Storks. At 2 p.m. the formalities began with a warmn welcome ta aIl and a brief history of the 45 years by Lioness President Marilyn Martin. Greetinigs were brought fram the Municipality of Clarington by Mayor Diane Hamre who presented a plaque from the Mayor and Council. Lion Terry Grahiam brought greet- ings from the Lions Club of Newcastle and presented a plaque from the mem-bers. The highlight was the pre- sentation of awards by Lioness Pauline Storks, assisted by District Govemor Moore with the highest hon- aur bestawed on Lioness Jean Rickard wvha is a charter miember of the originial club and hias served faithifu-lly for 45 years. Other awards were: 40 years - Irene Cunnmingham, Pauline Storks; 35 years - Eva Hoar; 25 years Betty Blaker, Grace Gibsoni; 20 years- Kay Powell: 15 years - Lynii Lo(,vekin; 10 ber and Pauline Starks who was president in 1980 when the Lioness received their charter. years - Lorraine Lover, Marg Wind; 5 years - Janet Adamas. A parade of hats followed and was much admired by al present. They were judged by three of the men present. Lion Terry Graham announced the prizes - oldest hat - circa 1902 from Mahone Bay, N.S. worn by Gloria Gardon, Newcastle, most unusual - worn by Helen Scott, Frankford, mosi spring like in beauty - worn by Karol Waist, Narwoad; Barbara Pierce, Newcastle won the beautiful painting in the draw, while the afghan went ta Lion Terry Graham. Several booster prizes were enjoyed by the lucky recipi- ents. Lioness Marilyn thanked ail who had helped in any way ta make the celebration a success. She presented roses ta Lianess Jean Riekard and Lioness Pauline Storks, the ca-convenons. Recagnition was made ta the volunteer helpers in the kitchen, Jean Graham and Dareen MeNiven. Entertainment was provided by the "Down on the Camner Gang". The beautiful annivensany cake was then eut by Lioness President, Marilyn Martin, Charter member Lioness Jean Riékard and the Charter President of the Lioness Club of Newcastle, Pauline Storks. While tea was being served Matha Farrow entertained with delightf -ul music on the piano. Tea pourers wene Lianess Grace Gibson and Lioness Betty Blaker. The animnais apparently ran west inta a field afier a truck driver at a local business blew the air horn of his truck. On Tuesday afternoon police confirmed that the three animnais involved were three cross breed German Shepherd/Husky dogs that are used for security at Transcanada Transfarmiers & Switchgear iocated at 968 Dillinghami Road in Pickering.
