r'. 12 - Oroiio Weekly Times, WIfednesday, May 14, 1997, 1 have been instructed to write to you regarding the proposed Cairn that should be erected, on Beaver St. where the old school once stood. We, the Directors of the Newcastle Ratepayers Association, feel that the request for donations to erect the Cairn was poorly publi- cized, as most members didn't know of the request uintil reading a letter by Bob Martin tisweek's copy (April 30) of the Statesmnan. Also, we feel that erection of the Cairn should be the responsibility of NC School Board, and should have considered it a part of the old school building demo- lition project. ln the letter, it stated that $2,000 was needed to be raised by April 30. We hope thiat you will considter extend- ing the deadline. We are anx- ious to see somnething buit to commemiorate the old school, and are willing to mieet with you, in the hope that this will corne to an agreeable conclu- sion.
