j 4 Plant Sale on the front steps of the Newcastle Commuity David Hinton speaks at flower show Centre on Tuesday, May 2th. There were 13 exhibitors this year. After reg- istering their entries and plac- lng them on the tables in their proper category to be judged they went into the Lion's Room to attend their meeting. Once everyone was quiet Pam Dalley welcomed every- one and then the minutes of the last meeting were read by Penny Leddy. Next on the agenda was guest speaker David Hinton. After Vicky Lesnick had intro- duced hlm he spoke to the members assembled about Rhododendrons and Azaleas. There was also a shide pre- sentation which was enjoyed by everyone present. David explained, how they grow depending on the weather conditions and that the dif.- ferent types of plants need different types of areas and soils to grow properly. He also saïd that books are a good way to start learning about* the different types of plants but that only by trial and error will you be able to pro- duce the types of plants you are striving to achieve. A few other things that he talked about was the low maintenance and the few insect pest and how they don't seem to affect the plants appearance or growth. Lots of watering is required to pre- vent wllting but if you are unable to do so the plants will return to their own beautiful appearance in Lime on their own. Once David was finlshed wîth his presentation the members of the Society were able to ask hlim questions which he tried to answer to the best of bis abillty. Narda Hoogkamp then t]ianked hlm an-d presented hlm wlth a small token of appreciation fromn the Society. Thien the resuits of the flower show were read out and the judge, Jili Chappeli, sald a few words of wlsdomi alter which Hazel Crago thariked her for coming and j udging their flower show and Gien she presented Jili with a srnall token of appreclation on behaif of the Society. Then the lucky wlnners of the door prizes were drawn and then Narda read a few words about failure and how we should preserve to over- corne it. Colin has consistently demonstrated his commitment to his colleagues and neighbours. Colins decision to enter poli- tics came after he watched the Liberals carry on the right wing Tory agenda;, without an effective opposition. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS... In 1993, the Liberals campaigned promising Jobs. WVe can't wait for the next election to have the unemployment rate drop. Job creation targets must be set and the government must be forced to meet them. EDUCATION Neyer in Canada's history has a government cut funding to Education;, and without the Reform party in opposition speaking out. Government must be held accountable with an effective opposition speaking out for our yQu*ng people's future. SOCIAL PROGRAMS WVe have watched the Liberals cut our medicare to the point that most Canadians are now worried about future health services for their families. -uta*-ÀM ~NDP COLIN ARGYLE Campaign Headqýuar1ers 139 King Street East D P Bowmanville, ON Li C 1 N6 Tel: 905 697-3395 m The Newcastle Horticultural Society held a rized by Jim Morrison, officiai agent for Colin Argyle.
