Weingartner - whose position with WFP is financed by a group of non- governmental organizations with interests in North Korea - arrived in Pyongyang May 26. His first official duty will be to, monitor the off loading, milling, bagging, transport and distribution of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank shipment. 1"The arrivai of Weingartner in North Korea means we have a dedicated person on the ground to moni- tor aIl aspects of our operation in North Korea," said AI Kehler, program manager with Canadian Foodgrains Bank. "At the same time, we continue to work closely with Caritas, a Catholic Relief agency with considerable experience in North Korea. Their continuing support to us in the country, particularly their judgement in arranging past and current food distribu- tions, has increased our confi- dence our food is getting to those who need it." Formed in 1983, the Winnipeg-based Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a church- based agency that provides food aid and development assistance to countries in need. t is comprised of 13 church partniers that include Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Canadian Baptist Ministries, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, Christian and Missionary Alliance, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, Church of the Nazarene Canada, Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada, Mennonite Central Committee Canada, Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, Presbyterian World Service and Development, The Salvation Army, United Church of Canada and World Relief Canada.
