JuIy 1 Oth. the Darlington Reactons Girls Under 13 soccer team tnaveled to East York to play in the CGSL. When the two teams met eanlier in the season the Reactors wene gracious hosts, as they com- pletely outplayed the East York team but allowed the visitors to go home with two points. This time they had nevenge on their mindis and stanted the Good effort from Orono #2 On July lOth, Onono #2 Tyke Soccer Club extended thein win streak to 8 and O over the Newcastle Firefighters. t was a good effort by both teams. Dillon Empey started in net for the first haif and Cary Konopka finished the game. The goals were scored by Lucas Martin with 4, Dillon Empey with 2 and was round- ed out by Megan Ernst with 1. The contributing membens of the team were: Meghan Bail, Michelle Bridger, Felicia Brown, Courtney Elson, Dillon Empey, Megan Ernst, Cary Konopka,, Christopher Lunn, Lucas Martin, Bernard (B.J.) This was a very tight checking game with veny few shots on net by both teams. Orono won 3 - 0. The goals were sconed by Adam Wood. Mathew Baxter, and Taylor- Doyle. The goaltenders wene Michael Lamay and Adam Wood. Garrett MacDonald, Shane Winten, Sable Empey had a very stnong defensive gaine. In the first haîf they were unlucky not to score on several, breakaways by Tanya Zdravkowski and Caoimhe O'Donnell. Strong wonk in the midfield by Kristen Ryan and Ashiey Siciliano set up numen- ous chances for the forwards to score. Stnong defensive wonk by Katie Gennits and Sarah Little prevented the home teamn from sconing. In the second haîf persistent work by the Reactons allowed Caoihme to score two goals to clinch the victory. Steady wonk by oun 'fili-in' goaltender 'Casine', kept East Yonk off the scoresheet and preserved the shut-out. AIl of the team are to be commended for their strong showing in the Robbie Tounnament necently. Irwin Tax peewee girls softball team finally taste defeat Aften going undefeated for the first eight games, the TAX- ERS finally lost a game to Tak-Masters, the only team in the league to take a point from the Onono girls. The players had trouble getting a bead on the Countice pîtchers in the finst three innings, but did not give up and led by the bottom of the batting order, rallied for seven runs in the fifth inning. The founteen run lead established by the Tak-Mastens in the finst four înnings was too much to overcome although the girls neyer gave up. Coach Withenidge praised the pitching of the opponients and Iamented missing four of his senior girls. Dianne McNair reached base in aIl three of her turns at bat. Leanne Topper and Marley Gimblett took to the mound to relieve stanted Katie O'Neill. He also pointed out that the girls are running the bases much better and are just itching to meet Tak-Master in the playoff tournament on August 22 in Courtice. The TAXERS play the new games of their sehedule at S.T. Worden P.S. in Courtice and will be back on July 30 to end thein two game road trip. The first pitch on the 3th is sched- uled for 6:30 p.m. Diamond Dust: Coach Bob had to play in his own game in Kendal so Trina West and Melanie Allun filled in on the bases as coaches.
