August 20,. 1997 Girls Under-13 Darlington Rep Soccer Club Reactorsbest Belleville The Girls Under-13 Darlington Soccer Club ("Reactors") played a great exhibition game last Thursday, August 7th against Belleville. The Reactors. who had no sub- stitutes for the gamne, still man- aged to dominate rnost the the play. Both of the Reactor's goals lwere scored by Caoimhe O'Donnell with assists frorn Ashley Sciciliano and Lauren Alexander. The defenders played a solid game, particular- ly Sarah Little and Katie Gerrits, while goalie Casine Barrett made some fine saves. Final score Darlington 2 - Belleville 1. Blank Whitby 3-0 The Unider-13 girls played a strong garne last Thursday, beating Whitby Iroquis for the second time this season. While Darlington started slow, pinned in their haîf for the first twenty minutes, they managed to turn the play around and scored before the haîf-time whistle. The second haîf belonged entirely to Darlington--wtýho found their rnomentum and flew with it leaving Whitby in their dust. Powerhouse Caoimhe O'Donnell came away with came'away with a'hat- trick! Alena Shah, Kelly Goddard and Monica Janssen utilized good bail control skills, while goalie Casine Barrett made some incredible saves ke eping Whitby off the score- board. Coach John Cook and this I 6-member teamn look forward to representing the Darlington Soccer Club and displaying their skills at two upcorning tournamnents: one hosted by Whitby on August 16-17 and the other by Belleville during the Labour Day weekend. Darlington U-13 Girls shine at Whitby Soccer Tournament! The Darlington Soccer Club's under- 13 girls ("Reactors") carne away from this week-ends toumnament holding their heads high after a sold performance. While they had to play 'up' one year against te ams in the under- 14 category, the Reactors managed to outplay most of their competitors. Their flrst game, the only one they lost, was agalnst North Bay where It was a 0-0 game until the final few minutes when North Bay slid in two goals. The Reactors' next: game. against East York was an easy victory for them with dynamo Caoirnhe O'Donnell tucklng away three goals, whlle Miki Orme's superb goaltending kept East York off the score sheet. The third game saw the Reactors outmaneuvering Whityb's U- 13 team; particu- larly in the flrst haîf when Tanya Z-bravkovski, capitaliz- ing on a comner-kick, crossed a high bail In front of the net wlth teammate Ashley Siciliano 'head-ing' it in the net for a clever fi nis h. hitby rallied around in the final minutes scorlng a goal and bringing the game to a 1-1 draw. The Reactor's final game pitted them against Whitby's under- 14 team (who would later take the trophy) for a challenging and exciting game. While the Reactors couldn't scoop up a goal, they made sure thaï Whitby couldn't either. The strength of defender Sarah Lttle, cou- pled with a strong presence in the Reactors' mid-field, kept Whitby off the score- board (a feat no other team had accomplished in the tournament). Whitby was awarded two penalty kicks that Miki Orme's daring saves managed to quash. The Reactors were happy ta close with a 0-0 game against the favoured team. While the Reactors were one point shy of making it to the finals, they were nonethe- less pleased with their accomplishments, particular- ly against teams from an older age bracket from veter- an clubs.
