Wednesday, August 2.7, 1997 - Il Youth on Unity: A Celebration of Diversity From August 9-15, 1997, The Co-operators hosted a Youth Unity Conference aimed at increasing the understanding of Canada as a country. The conference brought together 100 Canadian youth (ages 18-21) to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Canada. Through a series of workshops, discu ssions and interactive games, the conference provided a forum for the youth to explore, express, and listen to different veson unty. "Throughout this past week we hoped the participants would learn- something about their country, their peers and in the progress, mayb e learn something about themselves," said David Lach, member of The Co-operators Board of Directors. This second Youth Unity Conference (the first was held in 1996) was flot a forum aimed at reaching consensus or solution, but rather was an exploration event to help youth across Canada appreciate the di versity and complexities of the issues and our country.
