Nonnamaker will donate 10% of the approximately $2,200 (Cdn.) purse to friends of Second March 'whîch is restoring the Oshawa wetland and working te enhance its watershed. The North Canton, Ohio, racing team, formed by Nonnamnaker to demonstrate environmnentally friendly products and practices, selects organizations like Friends of Second Marsh in each area in which it com- petes as a co-beneficiary in ifs missions Nonnamaker said that other teams at events like the Labour Day Mosport Festival of racing and rock music are starting to take notice of their efforts, which include using recycled engine oil, gr eatly reducing fuel spilîs, recycling tires and cleaning and reusing rags from the pit area. Nonnamaker conceived Planet Earth Motorsports, a division of Phoenix Promotions Inc., while at Miami University of Ohio in 1993. Today, his effort is sup- ported by JWI and DMP cor- poration. JWI is the world's largest manufacturer of pres- sure liquid/solid filtration equipment, which reduces the release of contaminants. DMP uses several types of equipment, including JWI's, to develop treatment systems for manufacturers. Second Marsh is on the Shore of Lake Ontario, in southeast Oshawa, near the General Motors of Canada- head office. The extensive urban/rural watershed lies 40% in, Oshawa and 60% in east Clarington. - 1The site was originally slated for dredging as a deep- water port but was saved in 1984. It is cared for by the volunteer-based Friends of Second Marsh, which has raised more than $2 million from the public and helped administer a $1,3-million restoration fund from Environment Canada.'
