Bowmanville opened the scor- ing after only nine minutes of play and ten minutes later made, it 2-O. It looked as if Bowmanville were going to coast to another easy win but just before halftimie, Tyrone made it 2-1. This goal sparked the Tyron e teamn and for a while it looked like Tyrone was going to, tie the game Up. A fine individual effort by Fred Prins put Bowmanville further ahead 3-i but the Tyrone teamn was not to be denied--a blister- i'ng shot from just outside the penalty area reduced Bowmanville's lead to 3-2. A fourth goal- by Bowmanville shortly after put the game out of reach for Tyrone and Bowmanville ended up 4-2 winners to take the championship series. 1997 Awàrd Winners W. J. The first haif saw the Darlington youngsters uiti- lizing their soccer skilis and determination as they neyer had before! Midfielder's Gregory Nemisz, Brian Àllore and Scott Miller galloped into open spaces creating some interest- ing plays while pushing the bal up to their strikers. Leflwinger, Andrew Fudge, cracked a superb bal into the net, skim- ming right by Whitby's unsus- pecting goalie. The solid efforts by Darlington's defenders and half-backs Brandon Weigel, Corey Prince and Brandon Ernst kept Whitby's strikers from scoring. Whitby carried the play in the second -haîf, -but had trouble beating goalie David -Ross who made many acrobatic saves down the stretch to preserve Darlington's victory and keep an unhappy Whitby team off the score- board. This game concludes the Darlington Under-9 boys thrilling season where their final standfing places them in the middle of the pack within their division. Coach Gary Nemisz is iproud of his team's accompi 1ishmiients and grateful for the support of team spon- sors: Major Plumibing, National Poesktn and Biddle Engineerin 'g. More scenes from Mosport Festival .Orono #3 Atom Soccer Club have started their playoffs and so far own a 2 & 0 win/loss record. The team's strong defence and superb goaltending have baffled their opposition to this point. The first casualty to, have falling to #3 was Guardian Drugs being shut-out 3-0. Scoring for #3 were Taylor Doyle and Mat Baxter with 2 while Mark Spiers the netmin- der being on top of his gamne eamned the shut-out. Streak continues The next game played was against Orono #2 who also was shut-out 4-0. Goals were fired in by Mat Baxter, Taylor Doyle, Garrett MacDonald and Mark Spiers who was set up with a great pass by Adam Wood. The goaltenders were Mark Spiers and Mat Baxter. who again shut-out the competition. This game was played on a soggy rain-soaked field but #3 was able to pull off a convinc- ing win in those adverse condi- tions. The 'G' force, Garrett Wood and Garrett MacDonald played strong on defence once again helping keep the shut-out strcak intact, while Chris Kindratiuk continued to domi- nate the mid-field with some great soccer skills. The whole team played very well and will certainly be a force to reckon with next round against Andy's Land- scaping on Wed., Sept. 17.' Many thanks to 'Newcastle Photographic' for taking the team photo. Mosport Festival featured local favourite 'Scott Maxwell' of Uxbridge who takes time for an autograph and picture with elleven year old Doug Garioch fromn Baltimore. Scott was to have been Jason Priestly's driving partner in the Exxon Supreme GT Series before transmission trouble forced Preîestly fromn the race.
