Wbile it may bhave seemed a daunting task particularly in their debut year, the Reactors were able to realize their goal tbrough sheer determination and hard work. As theseason clos es, the girls can now reflect upon their performance--but flot too long! Witbin weeks, they'll take their talent indoors and contin- ue to bone their skills in an indoor soccer league. This con- tinuous play is especially important when the team advances to the Premier Division next year. For many of the girls, this can be a real juggling act as they participate in other activities during the winter, whicb evidently belp shiape their winning spirit. Key player Sarah Little belongs to a competitive hock- ey league. As co-captain of the team, Sarah bas been an impressive figure to watcb -- dominating the field as a sweeper, allowing no incident Zdravkovski, wbose long strides have helped net some to rattle ber composure. Sarah believes it takes bard work to fulfill one's goals but also places value in belping and teacbing others.. As a competitive figure skater, Caoimhe O'Donnell, trades ber soccer cleats fo r skates year round. Caoimhe, co-captain and centre forward, bas been a deligbt te watch sprinting into open spaces for many of the 22 league goals the Reactors bave scored. Tenacious Lauren Alexander, also a competitive skater, bas provided Coaimnhe with terrific support from the rigbt-wing. Lauren admires Kurt Browning for being a great world champ and enter- tainer and aspires to bis level. Also sbaring the right-for- ward area is Tanya great goals. Tanya enjoys play- ing for the Reactors, hoping to fulfilI ber aspirations to a pro- fessional level using Pele as a role model. One of the teams younger players, mid-fielder Lisa Pinheiro bas learned to stick to opponents like glue, drawing satisfaction from the team sport. Wben not on the field, Lisa takes time to play piano and swim. Also covering the mid-field is Kristen Ryan whose quick agility allows bier to dodge opponents. Kristen enjoys hockey in the winter admiring Cassie Campbell's contribution to the sport. Another hockey player, Katie-Gerrits, enjoys the chal- lenge of rep soccer taking ber job as a full-back seriously. Her ability to tbrow in long, well-aimed bails has been a real plus for the team. Sonia Celiberti, new to soccer, îs decidedly cut out for it, playing well both'in defensive and offensive positions. Sonia cred- its her father's encouragement and support of ber new-found skill. Mid-fielder Kelly Goddard knows the rules of soccer very well and draws on ber knowl- edge when refereeing chul- dren's soccer. Kelly's strong kick bas cleared the baIl during many close calîs. Sharon Cook's playful per- sonality is alI business wben she polices her area on the field disabling many would-be goals with ber deft skills. Sharon looks to beroine Amelia Earbart for example of determination. 1A positive attitude and ver- satility are key qualities Monika Janssen displays on tbe field. No stranger to team sports, Monika admires Michael Jor dan for botb bis devotion tobasketball and bis family. Also adept at versatility, Alena Shah plays defensive and offensive positions on the team enjoying the challenge of competitive soccer. Alena can also be found playing volley- ball and painting. Casime Barrett, a dedicated player, uses a fierce determina- tion wben defending or goal- tending. Casine sbows a musi- cal inclination, particularly for the saxophone and piano in ber spare ti me. Mid-fielder Asbley Siciliano-seldom backs away ftrm a tackle and uses ber bead for somte interesting plays on the field. Ashley enjoys basket- baIl and skiing as alternative sports. Melissa McCartby is an adaptable teamn player showing bier perseverance as a forward. Melissa swims in bier spare time and admires Augusta Stowe the pioneer of women's rights. Goaltender Miki Orme's acrobatic saves help preserve victories and keep opposing teams off the scoreboard. Multi-talented, Miki also shows skill as a striker. When not playing soccer, she enjoys hockey and basketball. Certainly the tireless efforts of Head Coacb John Cook, witb assistance from Rob Pinheiro and Jim O'Donnell, bas been instrumental to tbis squad's successful season. John draws from a wealth of soccer experience and knowledge. lain Alexander's competent management skills sbouldn't go unnoticed either. The team wishes to thank its sponsors, plus D.Y.S.L'.
