This years' lineup has been bolstered by five newcomers from Newcastle. The new addi- tions are Craig McManus, Chris Bouley, Rob Thompson, Adam Tollet, and goaltender Scott Poole. Highlighting the -the game was a six-point performance including 5 assists from Leaf centre Bob Witheridge. Orono led 2-1 after one with goals by Ryan Ryan Tresise and Chris Bouley on the power-play. Andrew Meyer scored -the Flames', lone tally shorthanded in the first frame. Orono held a 7-3 edge in shots. Leafs outscored Ops 3-1 in the second period on a pair of goals by Greg Shetler and a sin- gle from Jef Thompson. Ops' Drew Strongitharm scored for the visitors on the power-play. The Flames outshot Orono 12- 10 in the middle frame. Rounding out Leafs' scoring in the third were Jamie'Parry,' Tyler Robinson and Bob Witheridge with a power-play marker. Flames' Shawn Shryer netted bhis club's second short- handed tally in the match. 1Shots favoured Orono 6-4 in a shortened final period due to a ice- time curfew. Majoàr Plumbing Novices season opener Orono 'Markham Label' Peewee Leafs open regular seaison The Orono Peewee Rep- team sponsored by Markham Label opened Up their regular season, schedule at, home last Friday (Oct. 5) against the Haliburton Huskies. The Peewee Leafs had fin- ished their exhibition schedule with a record of 2 wins, 1 tie and a loss and looked like they would continue their winning ways as they jumped into the lead late in the first period on a power-play when Kyle Searle took a pass from Curt Robinson and his point shot found the top corner. Orono would also score the second goal of the gamne but unfortunately it was into their own net as a Haliburton shot was deflected by an Orono player behind a surprised Josh Brandt in the Orono net. The teams went to the dress- ing room at the end of the sec- Central Ontario WolvesJ ond period knotted at 1 apiece. The Leafs came out for the third period hoping to get the go-ahead goal but Haliburtoni would not give themmany chances and with five minutes left in the game--the Huskies were able to get theeventual winning goal as they scored on a 2-on-I break-away. The Orono team was able to pull their goalie in the last minute of play but could not get- the equalizer. The Orono Markham Label Leafs for the 97/98 season con- sists of forwards Curt Robinson, Jesse Price, Justin Szymczak, Nathan: Caruana, Cameron James, -Jamie Rowe, Tanner Milîson, Jeff Wright, and Matt Barnes, while Mark McAlister, Aaron Robinson, Kyle Searle and Lee Allin pro- vide the defence. The goaltend- ing duties will be'shared by Josh Brandt and Jeff Siemon. Kyle Johnston did his job between the pipes, stopping aIl but one of Peterboroughs shots. 1Barrie's big, tough squad tried to conquer the Wolves but went down 6-3. The score was tied at 1 atthe end of the first period, but the Wolves pulled away in the second and neyer looked back. Russ Major Plumbing Novices met up with Haliburton in front of a capaci- ty crowd in the Orono Arena. The novices gave forth a good effort in a close 2-0 loss to the Huskies. The goaltending duties- belonged to Shane Winters who played an outstanding gamne allowing only 2 goals on 30 shots for his first outing! Defence was handled by Brandon Ernst, Sarah Lakeshore -Di'-rt Sunday's motocross races at Leaches Track north of Kendal, had excellent weather and a great turnout.
