A Thanksgiving reprieve is just the break needed to rescue this week's editorial from the doldrums. One thing 1 learned this weekend is; when things look down, counit your blessings and you wiIl realize how many things you have to be thankful for. Taking timne to refleet on some recent situations belped me corne up with this list of thanksgivings: - The warm weather combined with the glorious colour show out of doors, combine to make this a truly magnificent time of year. -The Fire Department has purchased its first defibrillator. -You cani keep racing pigeons in your backyard and there isn't a dam tbing your neighbours can do about it. -Teachers are tbankful that John Snobelen got shuffled from Education to Provincial Parks. * -Freedom of information - The Lishman~s rezoning proposai is available at the planning department for citizens to peruse at * their leisure. -Ifyou don't like the way local counicillors behave, eveiy four years you get to elect a whole new batcb. -There are enough weeks in the year s0 every special interest group can have their own week. - The older aduîts are well on the way to getting their own activity centre. t didn't take me long to corne up with this list, and 1 arn sure most of you could cone up with a similar list without too much mental exertion. High on our lists of Thanksgiving shouîd be the fact that we live in a free and just society. Onie of the privileges we enjoy in our society is the right to vote. Exercise that right on November 10. I fear that my concerns may fail on deaf ears as a result of the players inVolved. Botb the vendor and1 prospective buyer are people of wealth and influence in our area and have rnuch to gain financially from this zp@niflg change. Far tdo often govern- ments bucîde under to these avariciou§ political heavy weights and ignore the con- cerns of the average hard working, tax paying, voting public. Let Mr. Lishman bring bis money into Durham'. Have him erect his factory on ser- viced industrial land already zoned for this purpose. Why disrupt this environmentally sensitive water shed area.
