4- Orono Weekly 'I~mes, Wednesday. October 22~ 1097 F irst game of the, season for T.R.T. Sand & 'Gravel On Sunday, October 1 9th at 4 p.m., it was the first game of the season for T.R.T. Sand & Grave , one of the Orono Atomn house league teams. They played against the other house league team for Orono. The gamne started out great with a goal scored by Andy Bangay (#11), flot even one minute into the game. The opposing team proceeded to score a goal a few-minutes later. The game continued with great shots on net. The goal- tender, Kevin Martin, stopped some amazing shots. In the second haîf, the opposing team scored 2 goals to make the score 3-1 for the opponents.- Andy Bangay (# 11l) got a penalty and was in the box for 2 minutes. At 13:30 in the 3rd period, Andy Bangay '(#1l) scored his secon d goal for the game. Following this goal, Joey Konopka (#99) had a break- awa.y but was not suiccessful at scoring as the goalie made an amazi1ng save. Shortly afterwards the opposing team scored one last goal to make the score 4-2. This was the final score of the game. An excellent defensive game was played by David Apt, Garret MacDonald, Jon Fowler and Mike Puddicombe. Soîne excellent plays were made by forwards: Andy Bangay, Chris Buttonshaw, Justin Guillemette,,Joey Konopka, Scott McIntyre, Reid McDonald, Mark Spiers and Joseph Staples. T.R.T. played an excellent game with some good offen- sive and defensive plays. Keep working guys! We'Il get themn next time. Russ Major Plumbing Novice mets Littie Britain On Oct. 17, the OMHA Russ Major Plumbing Novice met Little Britain. This wvas a close game with Little Britain winning 2-1. Shane Winters played a great game for the squad. Scott Henderson made Mis first start of the year, filling in for some absent players. He played a good gamne on defense. Matt Moffat showed a lot of grit and determination, on defense. Matt Bester scored the only Orono goal from Doug Deboo. Matt is playing very consistent with his sec- ond goal of the season. On Oct. 18, the team trav- elled to Minden. The team, showed a little jet lag after the long trip and were handed a 5-0 loss. Shane Winters was strong between the pipes. The team couldn't get the offense rolling, but there were a few quality chances. Darcy Mitchell made a cou- ple of nice rushes showing some good speed. Sarah Donnelly broke up a couple of rushes, frustrating the Minden skaters. Keep working hard team, that win is just around the corner. Next game: Oct. 21, in Sunderland. The Leafs came up with a gritty effort a gainst the Wïngs in a game that saw Oroi'O play short handed most of the game as they received 30 minutes in penalties inciuding two 5 minute majors., The first 1period was a close checking affair with neither team getting many scoring chanceý. Sunderland managed to put a puck in the Orono net earlY in the 2nd period, but the referee ruled that there was a Sunderland player in the cr@ase and disal- Ilowed the goal. Nathan Caruana opened the scoring for Orono at the 9:32 mark of the second peri- od as he blastëÇl a slap shot from the point and put it in the ,top corner with Aaron Robinson ànd Mark McAlister dfawing the assists. The scpre remained that way until C-urt Robinson, blocked a Sundlerland pass while killing a penalty and broke in ail alone on the Wîngs goalie and he made no mistake as he buried the puck in the back of the Sunderland net to give the Leafs a 2 goal lead. The referees were deter- mined to give Sunderland a chance to get back in the game as they put Orono down 2 men late in the game but superb penalty killing and outstanding goaltending pre- served the shut out for the Leafs. Jeff Siemon and Josh Brandt split the game in the net to eamn the 2nd shut out of the season forthe Leafs. A 9-1 win made it even more worthwhile. CMX Express played a good game but dîdn't have the express they needed against goalie Troy Webster. First period had the mighty Daniel Hodgson scor- ing the first goal assisted by Lucas Leechi. Thien Scott Henderson scored unassisted. Not to be outdone by hier brother, Robyn Henderson scored hier first season goal assisted by Mark Franlco. Greg Howe, unmatched in his ability, scored a fantastic goal wîth an assist from Scott.
