c t~~*'tU Oron WeklyTinesWedneèsday, october,22, 1997 -5 Atom Rep Accessible Design hockey news SThis year our team is a very blended mix of first year Atoni and second year Atom. Our Head Honcho and fearless leader this year is George Vey. Our assistant coach and manager fi-is year is Orono's own Paul Henry. The tramner duties this year are golng to be spItt between Dr. Marty Richter and Steven Canipney. The Orono Atom Rep Accessible Design team for 1997 - 1998 are: Captain - Brian Pisani #66, Alternate - Steven Burt #12; Alternate - Chris Moffat #19; Kyle Alun #93; Doug Garlick #33; Ryan Campney #4; Steven Hicks #3; Greg Dunhamn #11, Kyle Cox #88; Evan Moore #44; Brent Vanstone #8; Paul Richter #99; and Mike Fuller #2; goalles - Carl Tordiff #36 and Jamie Whitehead #29. We have played 4 gaines in total - one exhibition and 3 league gaines. Our exhibition game against Oshawa Little NHL was a real eye opener for our boys and coaches. Loss of 9- 0. Our three league games have been a little more chai- lenging. Our boys have accu- mulated 1 loss and 2 tdes. Bobcaygeon was the boys first league gaine which the boys came out strong, but were on the loosmng end of a hard fought battie. Minden was the next league game on Friday, October 10. Minden grabbed a 2 goal lead ta the first peri- Our boys rallied to tie the score, with goals by Doug Garlick and Kyle Alita. Mnden scored again mid- way through the thiÉrd to get the go ahead goal. Luck was on Orono's side when Doug Garlick picked up a pass from, defenceman Chris Moffat to lie the score at 3-3 wlth 1:50 left inthe peri- od. It looks like lt's gotag to be a challenging but rewarding year to participants and par- ents, good luck to our boys. Any bits and bites that par- ents want included in the Atom Rep news, please phone Annette Campney at 983- 6143. Any tafo is welcome. This article was tatended for last week's edition but it just neyer happened until after the fact. What a spectacular showlng of faîl colours this year. It would be my view that it lias neyer been better and one didn't have to go that far from home. Drive 115 to Peterboroughi, 35 to Ltadsay or Road 9 east of Kirby. -And what about that piece of heaven west of us through Happy Valley. The colour just seemed to roll ta ail shades and then blend so beautiful. North of Kendal looking west off Thompson Road, from a top Mount Tom, east of Orono and Richardson's Look-Out ta the Garden Hill area. And I wont soon forget the blaze from the Fleetwood Look-out east of Ballyduif. One just could not list al the spectaculars that exidsted, and close at home. Over the past couple of weeks we certainly have had a few flushes of birds from parts up north. The tiny Kinglets, Ruby Crowned and Golden Crowned, paid us a visit and were, as usual, found to be scurrying around in the conifers. For at least a haif hour period the large spruce behind the house was providing shelter and food for a constant flow of Kinglets. as well as for a few Tree Sparrows. Over the past week the Slate-Coloured Juncos were also passing through in small flocks. Some of these birds will winter ta the area around hedge edges. Both the Junco and the Kinglet spend the summer in somewhat of the same area - not too far north but far enough that we don't see them. The Tree Sparrow does corne from the far north and many will winter ta southern Ontario ta small bands., There is some indication so far this fail that the Purpie Flnch have taken over from the House Flnch especilly in numbers. Whether that will continue is rather doubtful. The Purpie is more robust with the maie being a brighter red and the female strongly marked wlth a white bar at the top of the head. Did make a fall sighting of a female Rose-bre asted Grosbeak and was entertained for close to ten minutes while a Crow tried to harass a Turkey Vulture soaring high ta the si. No feathers fiew but it must have been annoying for the Vulture. We have had a goodly number of birds at the feeder of late ranging from Chickadees, Purpie Finch, House Finch, Nuthatch, Doves, Slate-coloured Juncos and Bluejays. By the way we feed only Black Sunflower seed.
