Then a girl tried it, saine resuits, she agreed that there were no batteries. Rev. Warren said that this flash- light was like us when we were born, we are like the flashlight without batteries, no light, we light up when Jesus carnes into aur heart. Put batteries in the flashlight and it lights up, let Jesus into your heart and you have the light of life. He then led in the singing of "This Little Light 0f Mine". The Sermon was titled "Upon This Rock". Rev. Warren spake about the building we were in, he said when he was asked to be our speaker, he read from 3 books about the history of Kendal United Church. It was founded rnany years ago, our fore-fathers settled in this area and bult this building as a place to Worship. They came from. the British Isles and brought with them their different religlous beliefs. At ane tirne there were many Churches in the area. He asked, what are we celebrat- ing today, 127 years of thîs building? Anniversary, means the celebration of an event. 127 years ago the people asked Jesus ta be present with them in this building. Jesus will nat force His way into your presence, He waits ta be invited. Where 2 or 3 meet He will be there, if asked. Sa we should start each day with a Prayer asking Jesus ta be part of aur day. As in Jesus' day, there are many different religions. The Churcli began with a persan. The Disciples moved out and stated ta spread ChristianlÉty, then the powers decreed it was a religion. The Church was not meant ta be a reli- gion, it was meant ta be an answer. An answer ta the question Jesus asked of the Disciples, "Whorn do you think 1 arn?" Wýhen Jesus asked this question some sald Elijah, sorne John the Baptist, but Peter said "You are the Messiah, the Son of Blewett - Chaplain, Steve Graham - Secretary, Robert Casey - VG, Robert Chater - Treasurer. the living God". Jesus then called Peter, the rock, and said on this rock foundation, I will build rny church. It was then Jesus knew there was hope. You can be raised in the church and attend faitbfully, you can work for the Church, help all you can and still not be a Christian. Yau must open yaur heart ta Jesus and say, You are rny rock, rny Saviour. The Prayer of Thankfulness was given, the Offering received followed by the Prayer of Concern and Commltment. The closing hymn was "He Leads Us Living On". A time of Fellowshlp and a light lunch took place in the CE room fol- lowlng the Service.
