Thiùs year she was elected to the position of Chair by her peers at the Conservation Authority. Atm is running for the position of Regional Councillor, Wards 3 and 4. Th-Ès is a critical election for the residents of Clarington. The most important issues faclng our Municipality are the changes to the structure and function of local govemn- mentdue bo take effect on January 1, 1998. The changes that the new council will be dealing with are: the implementation of Market Value Re-assessment, the poollng of the cost of services with Metro Toronto, the downloadlng of the cost of ambulance services, social houslng. Go transit and provincial roads. The creati on of the Greater Toronto Services Board must be dealt with. As proposed. Clarington does not have a seat on this board yet decisions will be made that will impact our tax dollars. I firmlybelieve that. someone wlth municipal experience must be there to address these issues. During my service on Council 1 have made a dlffer- ence. There has not been a municipal tax increase for the last 5 years. Our industrial and commercial assessment has grown. We have handled provincial fundlng cuts and still maintain a triple A cred- it rating. Major municipal faciities have been bufit with- out an impact on the tax base. I have a lot to offer and hope to be able to continue to serve as Regional Councillor. A tile exeCIUse can go a long way! Walking,3 km in 35 minutes cari do woniders for your hea(th. Ifs that simpte.
