- -----,-------- ~ -~ Report of the annual meeting of the CHP The Annual m-eeting of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada was held on November 15 at the Orono Arena. -O Canada, Terre De Nos Aleux". Yes our leader Ron Grey lives now in Quebec and together with his wife diii- gently stuies the French Ian- guage. The CHP works hard for a united Canada and Ron pomnted out that reconcilia- lion and forgiveness are the biblical keys to achieve titis goal. He related to us a few epe- riences in regard to the above that were really encouragtng. A few memrbers were re- elected: Durk Bruinisma as local President and Gilbert Zekveld for editorials and public relations. The CHP reached one of its goals ti that they are still a Political Party, It is also becomning better known in Canada. One of the reasons of the Party's existence is that they yielded a sufficient nuxti- ber of candidates at the iast lection. If you are wonderling who we are and would like some information phone 1-888- VOTE CHP. Submitted by Mr. Bruinsma ARTHUR BLACK Ail day 1 face The barren Waste And crave the taste 0f water. Coooooooooool Water. Old song lyric Some day, thousands of years fromn now, antbropolo- gists from a distant galaxy will corne to Eartb to study the fossili*zed traces of the human population that once thrived bere. And they're going to be mystified. -Not by tbe hulking-relics of our skyscrapers. Not by wbat's left of our libraries or ourcomputers or our cracked and crumbling superhighway systerns. No ... if's the water bottle empties that will drive them nuts. They're made of plas- tic, for starters. That means they'll probably still be around tbousands of years from now. Our garbage dumps and landfill sites ('middens' the archeologists will caîl themn) -- will be rad- dl ed and infested with empty water containers -- Evian, Perrier, Canada Glacier, Pelligrino and several dozen other brand names. And the alien archeologists won't be able to figure out why. Religious artifact? Fetish symbol? Primitive formn of currency? Advanced chemi- cal analysis will reveal that ail the boUtles ever contained was water. Why wouid a civ- ilization (even one as bar- barous as the human one) carry around containers full of the cbeapest, most plenti- fui substance on the planet? A substance that was readily available from lakes, rivers, wells, fire hydrants -- even hot and cool running faucets in each and every domestic housebold? ltes not hard to figure out wby folks in Beirut or Acapulco or even Paris buy bottled water. Tbe stuf that comes out of tbeir taps is undrinkable. 1 even under- stand wby people in Toronto drink bottle water. (The stuf that comes out of Toronto taps is safe to drink -- but it tastes like it was piped in from the shallow end of the swimming pool). Similarly [ can understand why folks in Winniipeg were snapping up cases o-f bottled water during and after the horrible spring floods they lived througb last spring. What I don't fully under- stand is bow companies like Evian, Perrier and Canada Glacier can mrake a living selling water to the other 95% of Canadians, the vast mnajori- ty of wbom bave perfectly good drinking water in their kitchens, their bathroomns-- even in tbeir washing machines. -1Is spring water better than tap water? There's no guar- antee. Springs can be as easi- ly contaminated as any other ground water. Bes ides, wbo says the stuf you paid a cou- ple of bucks a pop for ever saw a spring? It wasn't until last year that U.S. authorities got around to regulating the terni "spring water". Until then, any entrepreneur could drain dump truck radiators into boules and seil it legally over the counter as Honest Tanglewood's newest albums! Sensationaol Fanilly Music for holiday Gift 61iifg Toronto Ontario .... .The Tanglewood Group and Universal Muei c have ensured tbe bolidet gift giv- ing season is chocFk full of a splendid selectioli of family music for kids of every age. The newest crop of record- ings from the celebrated label of award winning music is part of a special ini store col- lection of family entertain- ment available at participat- ing Sboppers Drug Mart loca- tions throughout Ontario. Titles available are: Polkaroo and The Polka Dot Flu, Make Music with Eric Nagler, Judy & David's Livin' in a Shoe, Jim Weiss - A Christmas Carol & Other Favourites, Stephen Stapley and Lynda Hayes - Angel on Your Pillow, Glenn Bennett - How Do You Like Me So Far? Fred's Pure Spring Water. Since 1996, anytbing labeled "tspring water" must actually corne fromn a spring. One giant step for mankind. INo, the truth is Designer Water is selling like hotcakes because a handful of Hollywood types like Pamnela Lee Anderson, Tom Cruise and Melanie Griffitbs have appeared in public clutching their Designer Water bottles the way Linus clutches bis security blanket. This has made it chic and trendy to be seen in public sucking on a boule of water. Indeed some Yupoid types won't leave home without it. 1 hate to be the one to tell themt they've been bad. . .so l'Il let the New York limes do it. A couple of months ago, The Times ran an expose that showed more than a third of ail bottled water sold in the U.S. is mnerely filtered tap water. In other words som-e Yankee bustiers are selling water for a dollar a quart that costs tbem 1/1l0 of the cent to draw from tbeir tap. Even P.T. Barnum neyer figured out a scamn that brazen. The limes further reports that several American cities, including Houston, Texas, are finalizing plans to put their municipal water in plastic botties and seli it up on the shelves rigbt alongside the expensive, exotic brands. They figure if people are dumb enough to pay for a substance they can get for free, then the municipal cof- fers mighit as well see somne of tbe action too. Afler aIl, it doesn't take a gen jus to figure out what Evian speils backwards.
