4 Orono Weeldy Times, Wednesday~ November 26% 1997 *The Building Place' Bantam leafs Builders tower over M çillbrook The Orono Bantam Leafs, sponsored by the Building Place hiad a quiet week with only one game. On Thursday, November 20, coach John Tresise turned the practice into an exhibition game against Millbrook. Orono--the stronger team, came out on top winning 8-3. The first period saw no Orono penalties while Millbrook served one for trip- ping. Great passing, puck han- dling and team work by Orono provided them with ample shots on net. However, it was- nt until the 5:57 mark before their hard work paid off when a Bob Brown pass to Brad Wood found its way to the Millbrook net for the first Orono goal. Defensemen Kyle Moore and Adam Rypstra kept the play in Millbrook's end and their deter- mination was rewarded when Rick Howe scored with the assist going to Wood with two minutes left. Millbrook was called for tripping at this point giving Orono the upper hand. A Shawn Pudlis pass to Derek Heerschop who's shot on goal failed to capitalize in a goal. The score remained 2-0. The builders came to life in the second period when Heerschop wound up and drilled one from the blue line making it 3-0. At 7:45 Millbrook slipped one past Orono's netminder Ashley Getz putting them on the board. With five minutes remaining in the period, Scott Webb made a great pass to Brad Wood who scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-1. At 4:01 Mark Brennan's slick puck handling and quick maneuver- ing around countless Millbrook players scored goal number 5 for Orono unassisted. Millbrook was charged with a hooking penalty and the builders took advantage of their power play with Heerschop passing to Wood who completed the hat-trick for his third goal of the gamne mak- ing it 6-1. Period three brought with it many unnecessary penalties. Orono had two players in the box and Millbrook one after a minute of play. Less than a minute later Orono was called for tripping making quite a tea party in the penalty box. The players on ice were flot intimi- dated--Getz gave an easy pass to Pudls for an assist wbo skated right up the ice squeezed between two defense and hit pay dirt making it 7-1. Millbrook scored while Orono was shorthanded mak- ing it 7-2. Orono came back wvith Pudlis assisting on a fly- ing slapshot from Heerschop that almost sent the puck through the net! Millbrook popped one in with eight min- utes remaining making the final score 8-3 for the builders. Getz made a great save just before the buzzer to bring the game to an end. Russ Major Plumbing tough on the road Armstrong IGA peewees rack up another tie After a disappointing loss in exhibition play Tuesday night, the Peewee House League team held off MacGregor IDA with a 0-0 final score. The peewees played as a team adding some fine passing to their arsenault. Defense is playing more aggressively while keeping the opposition out of scoring position Keenan Williams had an excellent game and didn't hesi- tate to take a shot. As the game progressed the boys became a little more aggressive holding their own. Fabian Rozario made excellent contact with the puck and Andy Robinson kept mnoving the puck toward the net. Mike Texeira kept moving forward and gaining control of the puck while Shawn DeJong and Jef Dickinson played hard hoping it would pay off. Defensively for the 'IGA', Kyle MacDonald, Mike Knapp and Kevin Martin took charge and kept the 'IDA' offense fromn making anything of their scor- ing opportunities. Sunday's league game was a disappointing loss after Saturday. Will Lofgren scored IGA's only goal. Shawn DeJong and Keenan Williams eamned assists.
