National Power Skating lykes simply 2 muchl Dufferin' The Orono Major Tykes travelled down the road for an exhibition game against their Newcastle counterparts last Tbursday and skated to 7-0 win in a one-sided game. The Newcastle goalie kept the score from running-up by making some key saves while Orono's net minder, Matbew Dobson didn't face a shot--he bad a restful evening. Goal scorers for the National Power Skating squad in the first period were Brett Cairns at 0:47 and Rob Blaker witb 1 second lefi on the dlock. .Scoring in the second were Kevin Griffin at 12:46, Nathan Smith at 8:07. Third period snipers were Jevon Staples (9:06), Tommy Meester (6:01) and Rob Blaker witb bis second of the game at at 3:59. Garnering assists were Grace Williamson, Tanner Jobnston, Noel Snow, Jeffery Mulder, Tyler Elson, Brock Dunbamn, Kevin Griffin and Alex Camipney. Final shots were Orono 31 - Newcastle 0. Poweir Skateirs over-power Durham T.V. On Friday, Novemiber 21 the power skaters returned to Orono Gardens and rolled to a 6-2 victory over Durbamn T.V. Grace Williamnson played another strong gamne on defense and goalie Tomnmy Meester was dynamnite betwveeni the pipes-cballenging shooters and diving on loose pucks. The second shift of the first period, defenseman Jeffery Mulder broke up a Durham T.V. breakaway--the puck ended up on the stick of a smokin' Noel Snow who fired off a bard shot on a break-away of lis own! At 1:03 Mitchell Harding opened the scoring by slamming one in with Tyler Elson assisting. The second period opened in a rush with Nathan Smith chasing down a break-away. At 8:09, the "T.V. guys" scored but Orono rallied together and Brett Cairns scored on a rebound witfr Rob Blaker earn- ing the assist at the 5:15 mark. Orono jumped uip by two at 4:09 on a beautiful three-way passing play--fromi Brett Cairns to Brock Dunham to Rob Blaker who one-timed it from the siot finding the corner. Rob Blake r with a repeat perfor- mance of the previous nigbt's game had another 2-goal night- -stuffing one in on a breakaway afler receiving a Brett Cairns offering at 3:47 making it 4-1. Bowmanville climbed within two, scoring at the 1:04 point. At 12:56 of the third, Jevon, Staples made it 5-2 by chasing down a pass and sliding in a backhand assists going to Mitchell Harding and Noel Snow. Matbew Dobson, fin- isbed the scoring unassisted at 6:27 with a Durblam T.V. defensemnan closely tailing him from centre ice to the goal. Final shots Orono National Po-wer Skating, 22 - Bowmnan- ville Durham T.V. 14. Agg regates take on Beaver Lumber On Nov. 2 1, the Orono Minor Tykes met Beaver Lumber. The Orono team played well but couldn't nail downi the win. Matt Puddicombe made the start in net. Matt made some great Saves. The team travelled to Newcastle on Nov. 22, for an exhibition game. They played very well in front of Matt Puddlcombe, but lost the gamne 1-0. Keep up the good work team! Accessible Design Atoms... Opposition Fails to Family Auto wayside 9 - - -à lots of action in November November was an extremne- Iy busy month for the Accessible Design Atomn Reps playing eight games and three toumnaments. The designers were well armed with hardware after tournament action. The Orono Club walked away with 'B' Champ honours in the Warsaw Tournament with MVP hon- ours going to Kyle Allin, Steven Burt and goaltender Carl Tardiff. The second tournament dîoser to home in Manvers saw the Orono club finish up as 'A' finalists bowing out to a formidable Oshawa club 6-2. The designers got off to a fly- ing start with Mike Fuller scor- ing the first goal assisted by Kyle Allin. Allin then added bis own marker to give Orono a 2 goal lead by the end of the first period. It was a lead short- lived as the challenging Oshawa team scored 6 unan- swered goals to take home the 'A' championship and Orono the 'A' finalist trophy. in game one of the Manvers tournament Orono defeated Bowmanville Selects 3-1. Orono played shortbanded much of the game but with great fan support emerged vic- torious. Donut Gallery On Nov. 16, Donut Gallery put up a good fight against Carnation Flowers taking a 5- 4 loss. Our first goal was by Andy Kadydalo assisted by David Landman and Brandon West. David Landmnan provided another goal on a brilliant rush from his defense posi- tion. Minutes later Gerrett Wood was on the recelving end of a great pass by Joey Hill mak- ing the score 3-2. Josh Moffatt ended our scoring with the 4th goal in the second period asslsted by Gamne two saw the Orono squad matcbed up against an aggressive team from 'Oro'-- that's right, Oro! This was a chippy affair but ORONO was equal to the task as they defeat- ed ORO 4-1 to advance to the 'A' finals. Goals in this gamre were scored by Chris Moffat, Kyle Allin and Doug Garlick. Earning assists were Mike Fuller, Kyle Cox and Brent Vanstone. Orono had complete goaltending from Carl Tardiff and Jamie Whitehead as they headed to the championsbip gamne. League play... The Orono Accessible Design Atomn reps are 4 and 3 in league play to date. The eighth and final gamne of the month is slated for Friday, Novemiber 28 versus Beaverton here in Orono. Tyler McKenzie and Mike Howe played a good defensive game. Both Lucas Szemoit and Andrew Perun had a solid gamne between the pipes. The team would like to take this opportunlty to thank Nick at the Donut Gallery. Hwy. 115 South for the spon- sorship and Pat Moffatt for taking the time to help us out with the power skating skills. Donut Gallery played with great effort, playmng their posi- tions excellently and played as a teamn. The Orono Family Auto Bantams had a busy week. Flrst, from last Sunday, our boys skated to a 6-2 victory over their host in Bobeaygeon. This past Friday in Orono, our boys got their revenge on Woodville as they handed them a 5-2 defeat. An exhibition game in Lndsay, Saturday, resulted in an event filled 7-5 loss. And finally, on Sunday, our bantams skated to a 3-1 vie- tory in Cobourg. First period action in Bobcaygeon resulted in a 1- 1 tie thanks to a power play goal by Bob Witheridge assist- ed by Tresise and Bouley. In the second period, Orono took a 2-1 lead on a last minute goal by Matthew Reid, assisted by Bouley McManus. The coaches mnanaged to spark the boys between peri- ods causing a little more Orono offense in the third. Orono's Jeff Thompson struck frst assisted by Parry and Beacock. Bobcaygeon replied a minute later with a power play goal, but the rest was ail Orono. Orono's fourth goal came fromi Bob Witheridge, assisted by Bester and Whitehead. Ne-xt was Andrew Beacock assisted by Parry and Thompson and finally Matt Reid, assisted by Leddy and Whitehead. The wn went to Orono goaltender Chris Bunritt. First period home ice action Friday night, resulted in a 1 -1 tie wlth Woodvllle. The lone Orono goal scored by Jamie Pan-y assisted by Bester. The outcome of the second period was a 3-2 Orono lead. Goals were scored by Ryan Leddy, assist- ed by McManus and Craig McManus assisted by Leddy. Orono goaltender Scott Poole displayed shut-out action helping his tearn through the third period with a 5-2 lead. Goals went to Jamie Parr from Thompson and Tyler Robinson from Bester and Pan-y. The Saturday. game in Lndsay was action packed, to say the least. The first period resulted in a 4-1 Lindsay lead, but a 6-6 tie in penalties. 'The lone Orono flrst period goal went to Andrew Beacock from Parry and Tollett. The Leafs came to life in the 2nd period as they out shot their opposition 19-9 and out scored them 2- 1. The second period penalty stats were Lindsay 10, Orono 7, including one Leaf player ejected and one (some what excited) trainer. Orono goals were scored by Matt Reid from McManus and Ryan Leddy from McManus. The third was a very even period. Shots were 7-8 in favour of Lindsay. Penalties were 4-3 in Orono's favour and the goals were even at 2. The game ended with Orono suffering a 7-5 loss with final frame points going to Bob Witheridge, unassisted, and Ryan Leddy from Witheridge. Despite bis fine effort in goal Chris Burritt was credited with the loss. Sundays game in Cobourg was another interesting match up. There was a new look on the bench as coach and trainer had to sit out due to Saturday's escapades. With WVitheridge, Tresise, and Bob Thompson on the inJury list and Tollett serving a sus- pension, Orono started with just two full lines. That changed to 9 skaters when the Leafs were served a bit- ting from behind penalty two minutes into the game. Initerim coach Chris Robinson inspired the team to a hearty performance as the Leafs took a 1-0 frst period lead. The goal scored byTyl7er Robinson from Beacock. The second period finished in a 1 -1 tie, Cobourg scoring the lone goal. In the third period the Leafs continued their he-arty performance, striking twice more. Once by Craig McManus from Whitehead and the second from Jamie Panry, assisted by Robinson and Leddy. Interim trainer Ray Bester was happy to see an end to the gamne as he was kept busy nursing injured players back into the game. Congrats. on the well, deserved win boys and spe- cial mention to Scott Poole who saved our bacon many times in preserving the win. To all the guys on the injured list "Get Well Soon." boys, lets see if we can keep the coachlng staff on the bench. Next game Frlday niglit in Orono vs Omemee. Sce you there! Shutout #3 for TY Webster Witb a two week break in, their bouse league scbedule. tbe Apple Blossomn Shop novices played host to Newcastle in exhibition play this past Sunday night. Goaltending duties belonged to Troy Webster who earned his third straight shutout and is quickly earning respect and a reputation as a stellar netminder from bis peers. The game was fast-paced withboth teams playing to win. Lucas Leachi scored the first Orono goal taking a Ben McKelvie pass and firing it home. Second period action saw Apple Blossom pop in two more goals giving them a three goal lead. Devin Robinson playing an energetic game-- took off down the ice and put one in on bis own and Scott Henderson bagged the next assisted by Mark Franko. There was no stopping Orono in the third period as they netted 2 more goals. Lucas Leach scored bis second of the game assisted by Hleather Maitland. Ben McKelvie (bis second of the game) scored the fifth and final goal from Kyle Balsom giving tbem the 5-0 victory.
