The Student Coufiil at St. Stephen's has organized a petition agaînst Bill 160 and in support of aur teachers. This petition was presented to the local MPP by the Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Miniister of Student Council. There was extreme enthusiasmi for this petition and over 350 signatures were collected. Also during the protest, nmany of Our stu- dents, along with students from other local schools went out to demonstrate their sup- port for the teachers stand. ,We ail hope that the coxnmu- nity appreciates how strongly students believe in their teachers. The fight stili con- tinues and we hope that our efforts did not go unnoticed. Now that school's back in full swing the next season's sports teamrs are under-way. Girls' Volleyball tryouts have been finished and a great team has been chosen and Boys' Basketball tryouts are in session. Bothi these teams look like they're coming along strQngly and shouldç have suc&essful seasons. The St. Stephen's Ptide Hockey teamn is well into their season and have been playing in somne very competitive games. The Sr. Boys team had an easy win on November 20 as the other teamn neyer showed up. The school's fundraiser bas corne ta an end and the prizes have been distributedl. The top hamneroomn per capita received their pizza party lunch on Navember 2 lst and the first anad second prize w.inn1ers won a mountain bike and roller blades, respective- ly. The walk-a-thon was a great success and we were able ta donate $650 each ta the Betbesda Hause and St. Vincents Soup Kitchen. We hope that this money wil help them to make aur com- munity better. The Athletie Cauncil has just flnished up its orange sales wbich raised money for weight room equip- ment. The Prom committee has been selling chocolate bars and probablyjust about everyone at school has gained a few pounds. Both fundrais- ers have been very successful and have allowed students ta become involved in their school. Our annual Coffee House was held on Tuesday, November 25 during the lunch hour. Students wlth musical or vocal talents were asked ta take part in this yearly event. The students had worked diligently on practice and tbis year's Coffee House was one of the best yet. This year we even hiad coffee and treats ta go along with the musical entertain- are Iooking for a Manager as a part-time job to oversee the Fairgrounds aind the Fair. Must be a good people person & promoter.
