This year's lineup of miovies inclu des the acclaimed adaption of Michael Ondaatje's Booker Prize-wiïnning novel The English Patient, which woni nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the hlarous aritics of Mr. Bean, and the mnagical story of two girls who discover that fainies do exist in Fairy Tale, This event is co-sponsored by the Clarington Public Library, Cineplex Odeon Bowmanville and the Friends of the Clarington Public Library. and is free to anyone who has a valid Clarington Public Library card. A donation of one looie per person to the Friends of the Clarington public Library, a group that promotes and enhances the services and programmes offered at the library, would be appreciated. Sharing a Heaithier 01 Future 'Vimipeun Tino Montipoli, owner of Stutt's Pharmacy bas been recognized by Pharmacy, Practice, a Canadian Pharmiacy Journial, for bis work in diabetes educaion. The judges of the 1997 'Comi-nmient, 10 Care Awards' gave Tino an hon- ourable mention for work that in their words "lias an extra- ordinaiy impact on the healîli of his diabetic patients and his peers." Tino is the only pharma- cist i n the Durham/Pffeterborough region certified as a Diabetes Educator by the Canadian Diabetes Association. One morning a month, Tino volunteers at the dia- betes education centre at St. Joseph's Hospital in Peterborough. He visits newly diagnosed individuals in the hospital to train themi how 10, use the blood glucose monitors before they are sent home. Tino bas lived w-ith dia- betes himiself for 34 years, and is able Io understand the needs and conicernis of is patients with diabetes. Excellence on the Waterfront, Waterfront Centre Annual Honour Award 1997 Friends of Second Marsh in partnership with David Crombie and the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, received this prestigious award. As part of a collective partner- ship of municipalities, Conservation Authorities, Corporations, Provincial and Federal governments and communlty groups we were recognlzed for our dedication to the creation of a quality waterfront for the northi shore of Lake Ontario. This was a juried competition held at the Waterfront Centres' annual conference In Baltimore Maryland, October 1997. Central Lake Ontario Conservation 2nd Annual Watershed Awards Ceremony Frienids lias also been hon- oured by the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority at their Stewardship Awards Ceremony, December 16, 1997. One of two recipients of this honourable award, Friends has successfully implemented a Watershed Stewardship Prograxn in part- nership with the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authorlty, the Municipalty of Clarington and the City of Oshawa. The award recog- nizes our efforts and initia- tives to involve the commu- nity in the preservation and restoration of the Second Marsh Watershed. Comrnunities ini Bloom On behaîf of the City of Oshawa, in appreciation of our partnership in the 1997 Communities in Bloom Program. The City of Oshawa received a "5 Bloom Rating of Excellence" at the Provincial communities in Bloom cere- mony.
