The bantams played in Cannington on January l3th, and handed their opposition an 8-0 loss. This past Friday, Haliburton rolled into Orono and out bus- tled our boys delivering us a 5- 3 loss. Finally, on Sunday, a pumped-up Orono bantam squad travelled to Fenelon Falls (whom they are sure to meet in the playoffs) and who earlier humiliated them on home ice. This time the roles were reversed as Orono defeated the 'Fails' 4-1. Family Auto 2 - Oshawa 2 In Oshawa, both teams played a close checking game and it was midway through the second period before Oshawa opened the scoring. Orono came right back scoring twice before the period ended. The first goal was scored by Ryan Leddy, assisted by Matt Reid and Craig McManus. McManus added a goal of bis own, assist- ed by Leddy and Reid thïs time. Orono held the lead until the last minute of the game despite every effort by the referee and linesmen to end the game early. Oshawa pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker and managed to squeeze the puck past Orono's goalie Scott Poole. Orono 8 - Cannington O) Their next gamne in Cannington, Orono showed no mnercy. Ryan Leddy scored the lone first period goal assisted by Matt Reid. Orono struck three times in the second. Twice by Ryan Leddy (for the hat-trick) and and one from Bob Witheridge. Assists went to McManus, Reid and Rester. In the third period Orono took complete control scoring four more goals and preventing their opponents from a single scoring opportunity. Goals this timne came from Witheridge, Ryan Tresise and Jamie Parry. Earning assists were Tyler Robinson, Witheridge, Cbristopher Bouley (2), Leddy and Andrew Beacock. Orono net minder Scott Poole record- ed yet another shut-out. 5-3 loss to Haliburton In Orono Friday, the ban- tams skated to a scoreless first period against Haliburton pick- ing up the pace in the second witb two quick goals. The first from Greg Shetler, assisted by Jef Thompson and the second from Craig McManus, assisted by Robinson and Adam Tollett. Haliburton scored at the five minute mark but, Orono replied with another quick goal from Thompson, assisted by Bouley and Leddy. Haliburton man- aged one more power play goal before the period ended then took control of the third, scor- ing two unanswered goals and an empty-netter in the Iast sec- ond of the game. Family Auto over rivais 'Fenelon Falls 4-1 You could cut the tension with a knife when Orono took to the ice in Fenelon Falls Sunday night. These teamis, bound to be playoff rivais, pro- vided us with a most entertain- ing gamne. Orono gained confi- dence by out-playing their opponients despite the absence of enforcer Bob Witheridge (serving the first gamne of a three-gamre suspension). Orono took a two goal first period lead with goals fromi Ryan Leddy, assisted by Parry and Tollett and from Andrew Beacock assisted by Shetler. Second period shots were even at eight but Fenelon Falls counted the only goal, a point shot that just fooled net minder Scott Poole, Orono regained control in the third with a goal from Tyler Robinson, assisted by Shetier and Thompson. Orono's Jeff Thompson insured the win with an empty net goal late in the gaine assisted by Tollett and Robinson. Our thoughts will be Rob Thomnpson who left the ice early after re-injuring bis previ- ously broken collar bonie. Russ Major Plumbing Novices defeat Clarington Eagles On January I3th coach Knox came to the arena with a brand new, dlean cut look. Rumours are, coach Donnelly will follow suit! The 'plumbers' faced the Clarington Eagles defeating theai in a close battle 3-2. The first Orono goal came fromn Cam Delorme assisted by Darcy Mitchell and Adam Wood. Goal number two was scored by Tyler Young assisted by Brandon Ernst. The third goal also belonged to Tyler Young with his second of the game--assists going to Doug Deboo and Matt Moffat. This was Young's last game of the season for the Russ Major Plumbing novices and he gave quite a performance. Good luck in the future Tyler! Plumbers lose a squeaker On January I 6th the Orono novices faced off against Newcastle losing a 2-1 squeak- er. Orono's only goal was scored by Andrew Fothergill fromi Brandon Ernst. Manvers 3 - Orono 1 Orono travelled to Manvers Pine Ridge Insurance scoop up a fie The Pine Ridge Insurance Novice house league team played host to the Bowmanville Eagles on January 17. At 4:12 mnto the gaine, Jacob Stockwell scored the first goal with a nice assisted pass from Kenny Jackson. Pine Rdge outshot the Eagles in every period with nice playmaking by Konopka, Whelan, Williamis, Lawrence and Koerssen. The score remained 1-0 for Pine Ridge through the second period as a resuit of strong defense from Fuller, Dobson, Hisson ai-d Smit. The opposition took the lead ti the third period. Dustin Armstrong of Pine Ridge scored at 13:53 driving i a Emma Lunn pass. The stale mate continued in the final period with many scor- ing opportunities, but no goals, for a 2-ail tie. Great saves between the pipes by Hoyne and some hard work by Green and Richards. Wh-at agame! Next league game is January 24. at 6 a.m. in Hampton. Twp. on January 1 8th but came home with a 3-1 loss. This was a rough) game but the team played well. Shane Winters was strong between the pipes facing a loi of rubber. Natio-nal Power Skaters deflate 'J & M Tire' 6-1 The National Power Skating Major Tykes rolled to a 6-1 win over J & M Tire last Friday nighit in Orono. The 'power skaters' notched 3 goals and directed 9 shots on net in the first period. Matthew Dobson opened the scoring quickly at 14:45 unassisted and scored again at 12:04 on a wrap-around fromn Rob Blaker. At the 10:04 mark, Noel Snow jammed in a quick shot from the top of the crease off a pass from Alex Campney. Orono dominated play in the second and added two more goals to their total. A hustling Katie Definney scored at 13:40 firing in a backhand from the slot after securing the rebound from a point shot by Brett Cairiis.Thie same shift saw sev- eral scoring opportunities including a speedy Tyler Elson on a break-away from the blue- line and Grace Williamson just missing on a backband in front of the net. At 4:1-0, goalie Tanner Johnson made a perfect pad save on a pointblank shot with 'J & M' pressing. With only three seconds left in the period, Rob Blaker scored on a bard shot with Mitchell Harding col- lecting the assist. Play continued in the third with Orono defencemen Nathan Smith, Jeffery Mulder, Jevon Staples, Brett Caimns and Harding locking up the entire 'Tire' team. The 'Power skaters' rounded out their scoring at 4:32 when Brock Dunhami popped in a goal with Noel Snow gamering the assist. Bowmanville's J&M Trire notched their only goal at 1: 47.
