Volume 62, Number 7 RONO WEEKLY TIMES ST Included Wednesday, Feeebruary 18, 1998 Big thîngs planned for Clarîngton Youth Centre The goal of the Clarington Youth Center is to keep kids off the street. At the centre kids can get involved in various sports and recreational activi- ties. Monthly dances are also planned for the centre. For now the centre which is located at 166 Church St. Bowmanville, will be open one day a week. As more volun- teers sign on, the centre will be opened more often. Volunteers will staff the centre in teams, and work 3 hour shifts. One volunteer per shift xill have C.P.R. training, which is being offered free of charge. "Big things are planned" said Youth Council member Bill Argyle, "but were flot ready yet." Besides running the Youth Centre, the Clarington Youth Council will be dealing witha variety of youth issues. They will be looking into transporta- tion matters.' Having the centre in Bowrnanville, makes it dif- ficult for youth from Newtonville and Orono to access. They will be looking into running a bus to the outly- ing areas. The counicil will also be looking into construc- tion of a skateboard park. Kyle McOustra, who is also on the Youth CoLincil said, "now the centre is open, we have time to address these issues." "We want the whole com- munity to know we are here," said Argyle. "If they have any questions, the counicil can be reached by calling 623-6796". Adam finished fifth overaîl in the junior men's comipetition at the Caniadian Nat1 inal Figure Skating Chamipion-ships in Hamilton this Janiuary past while he and sister Kaiti placed ninth in the novice pairs event.
