Matt The Orono Building Place Bantams regained first place as they defeated the former No. 1 team -- Reynolds Plumbing. Orono started striong with a lot of shots, but just couldn't seem to get it by the goalie. Orono's Mark Brennan had a great chance in front but was tied up. Dan Tresise finally solved the goalie at 3:53 of the first on a big rebound. Assists to Derek Heerschop and Casey Muizalaar. Orono v it up 2- O at 1:34 as Bobby Brown Reid popped one in with a little help from linemates Jamie Parry and .Greg Bester. Goaltender Chris Burritt claimed the win for Orono this night. Game 3 in Orono Orono called up A.P.'s Derek Heerschop from the ban- tam house league team and Lee Allin from the peewee O.M.H.A team for game three versus Ops last Friday night to help fill some holes left by sus- pended players Ryan Leddy and Ryan Tresise and Rob Thompson still recovering from a broken collar bone. Except for a checking-from- hind suspension to Heerschop, the first period was uneventful with the two teams exchanging a total of only eight shots. Orono's Jeff Thompson started the scoring at 5:33 of the sec- ond period, assisted by Greg Shetler. Before 30 seconds passed, Orono struck twice more with goals from Bob Witheridge and Craig McManus. Picking up assists were McManus, Tyler Robin- went end to end and put a nifty little backhander in the top corner. Assists to Ashley Getz. Mark Brennan had three break-aways In the sec- ond and third but couldn't find the back of the net. Orono was very effective on their penalty killing unit as they killed off some late penalties. Reynolds managed to slip one in late in the third but Orono shut them down and pulled off a 2-1 win. Congratulations to Ashley Getz who made some excel- lent saves to preserve the win. son and Bob Witheridge. It did- n't dampen Ops' spirit though, as they continued to put pres- sure on the Family Auto ban- tams and responded in a big way with three goals of their own to tie the game at 3. Opono regained their com- posure in the third by scoring three more goals to Ops' one. Third period goals came from Andrew Beacock (2) and Jamie Parry. Picking up assists on these goals were Witheridge (2), Shetler, Beacock and Tollett. Congratulations to both teams. Ops proved a tough opponent that would not quit. It took a fine performance by Scott Poole in net to ensure the win as Orono was outshot 27- 19 in the game. The bantams, waiting to see who they'1l meet up against in round three are determined to keep their perfect playoff record intact. Lessons are being learned as the boys see how quickly suspensions can alter the lineup. Composure is cru- cial in playoff hockey, stay focused and who knows how far this ride might take us!! Family Auto Leafs have some time off after eliminating Ops in round two of O.M.H.A. playoff action. Their round three opponent will be deter- mined at the conclusion of the Port Carling and Dundalk series this week- end. Presently the two teams are tied at one game apiece. Games are sched- uled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday if necessary. The OMHA Russ Major Plumbing novices were elimi- nated from OMHA playoff action by Minden last Friday. This was a very close series with both games basically decided by one goal with some empty netters. The two evenly matched teams began play February l0th in Minden where the Russ Major Plumbing novices were shutout 3-0 by the close-checking Minden squad. February 13th turned out to be another close- checking match. This time the 'plumbers' had home-ice advantage but to no avail as they were shutout again 2-0. Qrono goaltender Shane Winters was outstanding between the pipes leaving spectators in awe after some spectacular glove saves. The appreciative hometown fans responded by chanting "holy moly what a goalie"! Orono had several scoring opportunities late in the third-- at one point Andrew Fothergill smacked a nice shot off the opponent's cross bar then later on Darcy Mitchell narrowly missed by ringing one off the post. However, Minden was luckier managing to solve Winters late in the third plus an empty-netter dashing any play- off hopes the Orono novices may have had. They will play at a later date for consolation champi- onship honours. Many thanks to the Russ Major Plumbing novices-- including Shane Winters, Ryan Knox, Brandon Ernst, Andrew Fothergill, Cam Delorme, Darcy Mitchell, Doug Deboo, Matt Bester, Josh Flynn, Daniel MacIsaac, Denis Beenen, Adam Wood, Sarah Donnelly, Matt Moffat and Daniel Reilly for a most enter- taining playoff series. Accessible Design Atoms tough loss to On Friday, February 13, the Orono Accessible Design Atoms took on the Oshawa L.N.H.L. Blackhawks. Orono got off to very slow start giving Oshawa many scoring opportu- nities. Orono had a couple of chances to score on rebounds but the opposing goaltender turned the shots away. Eventually, Oshawa did put one on the board late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Orono club started the second period with a one-man advantage but couldn't get a Blackhawks rally going. Nothing seemed to click. Doug Garlick dinged one off the post as Orono put the pressure on the Blackhawks in the late minutes of the second. Oshawa stepped up their play as they went end to end and scored on a backhander to go up 2-0. Orono did get one back though, at 7:30 of the third. Paul Richter knocked in Ryan Campney's rebound when they were shorthanded. Despite a terrific effort at the end of the game to tie it up, Orono was defeated 2-1. Friday the l3th Iucky for Dufferin Aggregates! Friday, February the 13th turned out to be 'not so bad' for the Dufferin Aggregate Minor Tykes. In fact, one might say it was a downright 'lucky' day for them as they defeated Tim's Rent-AlI 5-2 last week in league play. Orono gave a strong team effort at the same time receiving solid goaltend- ing from Matt Puddicombe. The first goal for Orono was scored by Daniel Vanderweer unassisted. It was followed by two markers from Tyler Johansen also unassisted. Garrett Klompmaker scored the fourth Orono goal with Johansen helping out while Kyle Barr rounded out the scor- ing with linemate Jordan Macdonnell picking up the assist. With Ryan Wood and Brian Knapp out of the lineup with the flu, Lucas Martin, Shelby Macdonell, Tyler Armstrong, Scott Duquette, Jeremy Caruana, Nancy Burt, Derek Snow and-Cary Konopka all had to fill in the holes playing a strong game for their club.
