The Orono Family Auto Bantam Leafs are ready to embark on a quest for hockey supremacy entering the Ontario Minor Hockey Association's quarter final playoffs against Port Carling this weekend. Our powerful bantam con- tingent has been in limbo for a couple of weeks awaiting the conclusion of the Port Carling /Dundalk senies ta determine their opponent in the quarter final round. Well, it looks as though Port Carling will be their next challenge as they practice and prepare themselves mentally for the upcoming senies. The Leafs are off to Port Carling (located south of Parry Sound) for game one of the best three-out-of five games series this Friday night--February 27th at 9:00 p.m. Game two wil follow Sunday, March lst here in Orono at 6:00 p.m. Port Carling goalies will have be sharp--as any one Orano player is capable of iputting it in the net'. Orono came out of the gate flying and neyer looked back. Brandon Ernst had one of bis strongeat games of the year and Sarah Donnelly played some aggres- sive defense taking on any- one who dared to stand in front of the net. With MatI Moffat sidelined by the flu, the lîne of Wood, Mitchell and Beenen sparked the team with the first three markers. The firat was scored by Darry Mitchell assiated by Daniel Reilly. The second waa scored by Adam Wood assista from Mitchell and the third came a great goal from Adam Wood assisted by Mad Dog Beenen and Mitchell again. Cam Delorme acored the next one unassisted. Goals just kept on comlng for Orono. The fifth and slxth goals scored came from Andrew Fothergill with Josh Flynn (2) and Daniel MacIsaac- assIsting. Doug Deboo, Matt Bester and Ryan Knox all played a strong game for the club with Shane Winters putting in a steady game between the pipes. Apple Biossom Shop overpowers opposition in exhibition play With the season drawing ta an end, Apple Blossomn had some time for exhibition play. Game one was with Millbrook, February 15. A one- sided affair, Apple Blossom Shop won handily 11 - 1. After the three minute mark Andrew Kirkbride popped one in with Robyn Henderso-n assisting. Henderson then scored one her- self with a little help from Kirkbride and Jesse Rice. Eanly second period action saw Jesse, Rice score his first goal of the season unassisted. Adding to second period tallies were Scott Henderson from Mark Franko and Devon Robinson unassist- ed. During' third period play Orono scored six more times-- Kirkbride wîth his second. Mike Hicks (2), Lucas Leech, Paul Bridger and Ben MeKelvie. Earning assists were Robyn Henderson and Mark Franko, Paul Bridger and Scott Henderson (2), Devon Robinson , Kyle Balson from Daniel Hadgeson. Millbrook spoiled Oronoý netminder Troy Webster's bid for a shutout sconing their only goal of the game in the third. 9-2 over Orono Pineridge February 18, Apple Blossom defeated Orono's Pineridge with a canvincing 9-2 win. Pinenidge scored twoearly but that was it as Apple blossom went on to pot fine in a row! Scoring in the first was Paul Bridger unassisted. Lucas Leech led off the second with Kirkbride assisting then Greg J-fowe put one on the board assists going ta Kinkebride and Robyn Henderson. Third period play had Apple Blossom scoring six times: Mike Hicks, Lucas Leech, Devon Robinson (2), Kirkbride and Jesse Rice. Picking up the assists were 'Scott Henderson, Jesse Rice, Heather Maitland, ýKyle Balson, Andrew Kirkbride, Mike Hicks (2) and Mark Franko. 4-2 over Bowmanville #5 Sunday night Apple Blossom played their last sea- son game against Bowrnanville team #5 in Orono. The first periad of the ganie was score- less. Bowmanville scored first ea rly irn the second period. Three minutes later Orono responded. Lucas Leech potted two goals with Scott Henderson from Paul Bridger and Heather Maitland , from Scott Henderson. Bowmanville man- aged ta get one more past Troy in the third peniod. After that Paul Bridger netted two more goals unassisted. Troy Webster in net for Apple Blossom worked very hard for this win facing a lot of rubber. Final score 4-2 Orono. Orono Ice EfFects.. fui! competitive season The Orono Ice Effects adult precision skating team have had a busy season with three cornpetitians..s0 far. The team travelled ta Fort Enie placing 4th in the Niagara Classic February lst. Then it was off ta the Whitby Invitational an February 14 with a 3rd place finishfor a bronze medal. Next was the Western Ontarioa-section Adult Campetition in Delhi February 21. The Ice Effects placed lst-in their flight rnoving on ta the gald final for an 8th place finish out of 28 participating teams. The Ice Effects will be campeting next at the Spningfest Competition in Newmarket ta be held March 2lst and they will end their, season at the Orono Figure Skating club Carnival on Apnil 4. The Ice Effects have 24 skaters this seasan caached by Nancy Meredith of, Caurtice. Nancy cames, ta the team with a solid back- graund in precision skating and coaching.
