The boys tied Bobcaygeon 4-4 in game one and defeated Peterborough's 'All Saints' 5-2 in game two putting them in the 'A' final against the hometown Millbrook team. The penalty- filled final ended in a 6-3 Orono loss. Orono faced a charged Bobcaygeon team in their open- ing game and lack-lustre per- formance resulted in the team squeaking' out a tie. The teams skated through a scoreless first period--then the flood gates opened wide as both teams exchanged goals in the second closing with Orono trailing 4-3. Orono points were picked up by Craig McManus, assisted by Robbie Thompson and Matt Reid; Andrew Beacock assisted by Ryan Tresise and Greg Shetler; and Ryan Leddy assist- ed by Jeff Thompson and Chris Bouley. Orono put in a good third period effort but could only manage a single goal to tie the game thanks to Matt Reid assisted by Robbie Thompson and Craig McManus. Goaltender, Scott Poole picked up the tie. Defeat Al Saints In game two, Orono oui- played Peterborough All Saints with a 1-0 first period, trading a pair of goals in the second, playing stronger and picking up another pair of goals for a 5-2 win in the third. Marksmen were, Ryan Tresise assisted by Tyler Robinson and Leddy; Ryan Leddy assisted by McManus and Lee Allin; McManus assisted by Jamie Parry; Leddy assisted by McManus and Reid; Ryan Tresise assisted by Jeff Thompson and Jamie Parry. The win went to goaltender Chris Burritt. 'A' final vs. Millbrook Orono got off to a slow start spotting their opposition two goals before Ryan Tresise replied. A lack of discipline by Orono resulted in another pair of Millbrook goals in the sec- ond frame and the teams traded a pair in the third to give the home team a 6-3 victory. Third period goals went to Ryan Leddy and Tyler Robinson assisted by Jeff Thompson. Poole and Burritt shared duties in the Orono net this match. Sadly, team performance for the day was something less than graceful both on, and off the ice. As the boys prepare to close out the season with a tournament in St. Catharines Easter weekend, hopefully they will reacquaint themselves with some of the desire and disci- pline they displayed in the playoffs. If not, we will gladly be making an early return trip home. The season is not com- pletely over yet guys, so let's play some hockey we can all enjoy. After a slow start to the regular season, the IGA house league peewee team is looking for the 'C' champi- onship in CRHL playoffs. With two tie games and one loss, the team still stands an excellent chance of winning îhe 'C' division. On March 14 Orono host- ed Bowmanville for their first playoff game. The opposition scored 40 seconds into the first--things did not look good for Orono. However, fine defensive work kept the Bowmanville goals to 2. Orono came alive in the sec- ond period with Josh Shephard potting one from Kyle MacDonald. Pumped from the goal, Lofgren came to the rescue tying the game at 2 with an able assist from Kevin Martin. The IGA crew was ready to play the rubber match game in Bowmanville March 16. Although determined to win this one, Bowmanville had to settle for another tie. They scored first but Orono's DeJong found the mark with Lofgren and Lake assisting to tie it at 1. Lofgren went into the second period also deter- mined to win and scored Orono's second goal this time with DeJong and Lake assist- ing. But Bowmanville quick- ly went ahead scoring 2 mak- ing 3-2. Again, Lofgren was- n't to be denied as he tied it up at 3 apiece with 2:45 remaining in the third to rob Bowmanville of a win and to keep their 'C' championships alive.
