1 f ', Power Skoters charge t 8-1 Over Comiputer Doctor The major tykes short cir- cuited 'Computer Doctors' nail- ing down their second win in playoff action. The team out- shot their opposition 21-5 in a one-sided affair. Two early breakaways by Matthew Dobson and Rob Blaker deleted the 'computer' programn and at 1:49 Tomimy Meester landed a goal from Brett Cairns and Jevon Staples. On the same shift at 0:31, Cairns scored his first of three from Meester and Staples. Katie Definney fin- ished off the first with some rock 'em sock 'emi work along the boards. Netminder Tanner Johnston blanked the 'doctors' on a breakaway chance early in the second and about a minute later, Grace Williamson direct- ed a quick shot on net. Meester scored his second on a tip-in at 6:48 from Cairns. Central opened their semi final series by sweeping'a North Central (Orilliax) 3 games straighit and advanced to the finals against Peterborough beating the Petes 3' games to 2. Clarington is well repre- sented on this team with 10 players residing in the imnme- diate area. Local players are: Kýle Johnston (Orono), Matt Mitchell (Oronio) Justin Caruana (Orono), Mark Kelly (Newcastle), Andrew Fracz (Courtice), Andrew Sargent Championships (Courtice), Derek Vanschyndel (Courtice), Jimi Provenzano (Courtice), Alex Henderson (Enniskillen) and Chris Cooper (Bowmianville). AIl these boys made a signifi- cant contribution to the team's success this' year. B3owmnanville scored eàrly-- nine seconds into the game to take the lead. Orono bounced back taking control in the sec- ond period scoring three nina row to take 3-1 lead. Gregg Howe scored the first Orono marker fromi Kyle Balson and Lucas Leech wîth Robyn Hienderson notching the second from Balson and Andrew Kirkbride. Mike Hicks pro- duced goal numnber three assist- ed b\ Kirkbride and Paul Bridger. Bowmnanvilie carne within one during last minute play in the second period. Period thiree saw Carter's tie it up tien go ahead 4-3,. Orono's Devon Robinson responded by taking the puck down the ice with 1:24 left in the game to even things up at 4 robbing Carter's of a win. Orono took a 3-0 lead in the opening period with goals from Craig McManus, asslisted by Tresise and Witheridge; Craig again, assisted by Tresise and finally Matt Reid, assisted by R. Thompson and Tresise. In the second period, Orono plant- ed 4 unanswered goals in the opposing net. These mnarkers went to Greg Bester, assîsted by Bouley and J. Thompson, Rob Thompson unassisted. National Power Skating hockey parents Win advances TRT to 'A' division championship Orono's TRT Sand aiid Gravel atoms faced off against Bowmanville's T-Mac i their last gaine before finals. The Orono squad earned a 3-2 vic- tory over the T-Mac crew giv- ing themi a berth in the 'A' divi- sion championships. Bowmanville opened the scoring less than a minute into *Sundayv's gamne. Buit--less a minute later Oro)no's Reid McDonald responded by evening the score at 1 . Scott McIntyre and Mike Puddi- comrbe worked hard making a number of fine passes. Not only because it is something we enjoy, but because it is in our blood. Lt gives us an identity, an existence. Lt give~s life. The game is not only a part of our past, it is Our culture as we know it. The spo)rt of hockey has been referred to from a -ballet on ice to a frozen pond of violence. To Canadians though, it doesn't matter. We are proud of our national sport.
