Prior to the strikein 1994 ofthe major league baIl players, the game was at an aIl time high and it showed in the registra- tion numbers for minor bal across North America. Unfortunately, the strike did tremendous harmn to the sport and it will take many years to completely recover from the hurt this strike created. There are some signs of recovery however, as we 'see registrations in minor ball start to go up again, ever s0 siightly. Our local hero's, the Toronto Blue Jays, have assembled a lineup this year that shouid help breath some new life in the sport. With an ail star pitching staff that includes names like Juan Guzman, Pat Hentgen and the, "Rocket Man" Roger Clemens and a new desîgnett- ed hitter--Jose Canseco, we should be treated to some înteresting baIl and who knows, maybe a shot at another World Series run. Closer to home, here in Orono, we have had a fair registratîon, but there is -still some room for a few more baIl players. As the boys of summer prepare to take the field, make -sure you don't miss your opportunîty to join them. don't delay to register and help us I up our teamn rosters before we are forced to implement late registration fees. There are openings in aIl teams'from T-BaIl (4 years) to bantam (15 years). To sign up or for more infor- mation,,caîl Art Reid 983- 9495.
