Orono Lumber Midgetsgo doWn fighting! The visiting Orono Lumber Midgets narrowly lost a nasty. hard-hitting, penalty-ridden exhibition gaine to the Port Hope 'B' Redmen last Wednesday night (Nov. 4). The game featured 82 minutes in penalties with Port Hope sitting out 44 minutes to Orono's 38. Coach Reid was proud of his boys' self control. The Port Hope Sports Complex, known for its large ice surface, can be a little undaunting for some visiting teams. But, the Orono Lumbermen, although going down 3-2 worked hard and weren't deterred scoring two power play goals. Ryan Homes scored the first goal of the game at 7:29 of the first fron Tyler Robinson. Port Hope responded by tying it up three minutes later. The Redmen went alhead by two goals before the penalty-strewed second period ended. Third period play featured more hockey than penalties this tine. Bob Witheridge made it a 3-2 garne fron Jeff Lee and Janie Parry with four minutes left on the clock and that was as close as the midgets got. The boys continued to play their hard working style, this tine against a tean in their own division. Having a full team for a change helped as they were rewarded with an 8-1 victory. The midgets moved the puck very well keeping the vis- itors at bay while serving only eight penalties this game to Mariposa's twelve. Scoring was certainly around this game. Ryan Homes counted for two, Ryan Leddy, Bob Witheridge , Greg Harness, Andrew Beacock, Ryan Tresise, Mike Knox and Jamie Parry all chipped in with one each. Garnering assists were Tyler Robinson, Witheridge with 2, Tresise, Greg Shetler, Andrew Reid, Paul Landers, Andrew Beacock, and Craig McManus. Ice Chips: Art Reid kept stats in the press box; Greg Shetler has been to dancing lessons and manager Bester took over as trainer and kept coach Witheridge in tow. Markham Label peewees curry Family Auto bantams take 'C'championship The Family Auto bantans competed in the Mariposa Tourney on the weekend in Oakwood and Little Britain tak- ing the 'C' division champi- onship with a decisive 5-2 win over Oshawa in the final. Orono fell 5-2 to Uxbridge in game one of tournament play despite giving it an all-out effort. Giving up the puck at inopportune moments resulted in a few unfortunate goals. Chris Field scored both of Orono's goals. Jeff Thompson, Derek Heerschop, Matt Reid and Adam Tollett were credited with the assists. In game two, Orono fell 4-1 to a tough Bracebridge teain. After scoring the opening goal, there were no lucky breaks as Bracebridge went on to score four in a row. Derek Heerschop scored Orono's lone goal from Jeff Thompson and Chris Field. Family Auto had no trouble scoring goals in the 'C' cham- pionship final Sunday defeating Oshawa 5-2 for the title. Jeff Thompson and Matt Reid bagged two goals each and, for added insurance, Dan Tresise potted the fifth Orono goal. Later that evening, the ban- tams took on Port Perry. Lookiig dominant in the first Orono bombarded the opposing goalie with countless shots but lie was sharp standing his ground. However, Orono scored first on a blast by Heerschop fron Thompson. Port Perry replied quickly scor- ing four straight holding Orono in check until the third. Matt Reid started the bal rolling for Orono again with a comeback goal fron Ricky Howe and Scott Wood. The boys pulled within one as Jeff Thompson scored fron Reid and Field but fell one goal shy losing 4-3 to Port Perry. Next home game is Friday night versus Omemee at 9 p.m. a 4gante The Markham Label Peewees ran their winning streak to four with a pair of wins against Sunderland and Manvers this week. The Sunderland Red Wings visited Orono Friday and the peewee leafs sent them packing with 9-2 drubbing. With their usual slow start the gaine was tied at 2 early in the second before Orono came to life rifling in seven unanswered goals to take the game. Curt Robinson scored a hat-trick with an assist while Matt Barnes and Kyle Cox con- winning streak tributed a pair of markers and an assist each. Tanner Millson and Chris Moffat scored the Leafs eighth and ninth goals. Kyle Allin had two assists while Kienan Williams, Tanner Milîson, Jesse Price, Justin Szymczak and Paul Richter had single helpers. Kevin Martin split the gane in net for Orono with Jamie Whitehead. Sunday, Markhan Label travelled to Manvers to take on the M stangs. They turned a close 4-2 lead into a total blowout in the third--skating away with a 10-2 victory. Matt Building Place blanks The Building Place bantams of the CRHL played two gaines this week--playing MacKenzie Park to a 1-all tie Saturday and coming off a 7-0 shutout against Darlington Auto Monday night. MacKenzie Park and Building Place--two evenly matched teams played end-to- end hockey the entire gaine. Orono, compliments of Fabian Rozario form John lHalik and Philip Cudahy were on the scoreboard first at-5.54 of the first. Orono held the lead until 7.28 of the third when Oshawa's Keith Janveaux final- ly solved Darrell Kennedy to tie the game. Defeat Darlington Auto Building Place bantams really gave it their in a 7-0 trounce over Darlington Auto the other night. First period highlights fea- tured a Mark Brennan goal at 8:55 fron Adan Rypstra quickly followed by another this timne by Will Lofgren, assisted by Casey Muzuelaar to take a 2-0 lead. Second period action saw Ben Currie let go of a hard shot only to rebound off the post. After the first ten minutes and mnany scoring opportunities later, J.P. Pisani drove one in on a Be Currie offering. This moved Darlington Auto to an all-out effort giving goaltender Darrell Kenedy a real work- out. Will Lofgren, Cameron James and newcomer Jordan Matthews took turns trying to Barnes, Tanner Millson, Chris Moffat and Curt Robinson scored two goals apiece while Jesse Price and Justin Szymczak had one each. Robinson added three assists each. Millson and Price had two each while Kyle Searle, Paul Richter and Kyle Allin had I each. Whitehead and Martin shared net again this game. The Leafs have a light schedule this week playing one game Sunday, November 15 at 6 p.m. against Minden. Darlington set each other up with scoring chances creating further action in front of Bowmanville's net. Early in the third period, Adam Rypstra, with assists from John Halik and Mark Brennan netted his first of three goals scoring a natural hat-trick this gaine. Darlington just couldn't get things going as Orono snuffed out every attempt. The Rypstra, Halik and Brennan connection put it in again tallying 5 for Orono. Philip Cadahy skated well in an effort to keep the puck clear of his end. Orono's offence racked up three more goals.
