A scoreless first period saw both teams go end-to-end with Orono's defensive tandem of Chris Buttonshaw and Josh Flynn credited with shutting down several breakaways. Mike Howe also made a great defensive play breaking up a rush denying Carnation entry beyond the blue line. Apple Blossom goalie Lucas Szemiot faced a flurry of shots from a crowd of players in front of his net when finally Carnation's Chris Fergusson found the mesh to open the scoring at 10:24 of the second. It looked like Greg Howe was going to tie the game when he broke away with the puck, deeked the goalie but his shot was off the mark. Another scoring opportunity presented itself when Tyler Skelton cleared the zone and Matt Smitt made a beautiful pass to Emma Lunn for a breakaway shot that barely missed the net. Szemiot made a spectacular save in the third but it was the hard-working second effort of Robby Campbell and Branden Hurren that paid off as Kurtis Gilbride let go of a blistering shot to put Carnation Flowers ahead 2-1. Coach Maitland pulled the goalie with less than a minute to play and it almost paid off. Paul Bridger~had a breakaway from the faceoffthat got a little too far ahead of him so he did a round-about but to no avail. The puck flipped high in front of the busy net and Reid McDonald took a whack at it hitting the puck with the shaft of his stick for a weak shot that ended the game.
