Rest area closed for good A joint endeavour to reopen the Hwy. 401 rest area between Newtonville and Newcastle has bit a major road block. .in June of this year council asked staff to investigate tlie feasibility of arranging a joint partnership with the Newcastle Service Centre and the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) to restore the park site immediately east of the 401 service centre. Imperial Oul, operators of the service centre, declined to enter into, a partnership for sev- eral reasons including cost of maintenance of the site. The Ministry of Transportation, who own the property did not return calîs made by the Public Works Departmnent. Mr. Wu lias been the Director of Planning for the Municipality since 1988. Prior to that lie was a planner with th e Region of Durliam. Tlie CAO position-lias recently been vacated by Mr. Stockwell wlio at the age of 64 resigned before lie would have been forced to retire at 65 years of age. Mr. Stockwell lias since accepted tlie position of CAO witli King Township. Wlien asked for a statement Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Wu replied, "il liasn't sunk in yet."
