He was introduced by Lion Brenton Rickard who reminded the club that Terry joined this club in Jan. 1991 and since then has became a great asset, serving as Treasurer, Secretary, 1st Vice President and President in 1996-97. In the meantime he served as Dist. A3 Treasurer for 3 years. Zone Chairman for one year and now Regional Chairman. Terry stat- ed he supports District Govenor Graham Lewis' goals especially increasing member- ship and to see all clubs meet- ings attain 85% in attendance. Terry, also said it was a plea- sure to belong to such an active club as Newcastle. Lion Terry was thanked and presented with a token of appreciation by Lion Howard Quinney. In a letter from the Lioness Club of Newcastle, the mem- bership stated that all their functions will cease at the end of this month, so they have decided to make two donations to the Newcastle Lions Club. One for cleaning chairs and carpets in the Lions Room and a second for a bequest that had been made to their club by a late member. It was decided that these donations will be dealt with at the next Directors Meeting. In a letter from District A3 we find that Lion Ray Ostapovich, has accepted the position of District A3, Sight First, Hearing and Speech Action Chairman and is asking for donations to these causes. It was decided that the directors would discuss and make rec- ommendations on this matter. Correspondence received from Canine Vision thanked the club, and in particular, Lion Jean Graham for the support they have received in the past. SCOUTING IN ORONO Your Orono scouts, cubs and beavers have been busy since our last article. Starting with our "Haunted House" we would like to again thank all who attended and especially all who helped build and run the haunted house. We would also like to thank Rolph Hardware for their assistance. The Scout Camp in Orono Is taking shape thanks to a lot of volunteer work and some generous donations from Orono merchants. We would like to again thank Rolph Hardware and espe- cially thanks to Orono Lumber. Thanks to them we are off to a good start on our construction. Orono Lumber was even generous enough to donate an entire building to the camp. This type of build- ing is known in scouting lan- guage as a kibo, but in hon- our of the man who gave it to us we will say we are going to the "Alastair" whenever we use this building. The Scouts recently went to the R.C.A.F. museum in Trenton for a guided tour, and on Remembrance Day all levels of scouting were pre- sent for ceremonies at the Cenotaph. Also the Scouts went for a three day canoe trip from which we are pleased to report that al scouts and leaders made It back. While on this tiip the scouts earned their knife/stove and lantern/match and fire per- mits. Hats off to the following scouts L.T. Harris for his modeller's badge, Jody Peddar for her individual sport badge, Collin Blight for his team sport badge, Jeff Hegarty for his recycling badge. Also these cubs earned the following badges: Stephen Crocker - Computer, Swimmer, Team Player and Family Helper; Bradley Steele - Team Player and Adam Welch - Cycling.
