T RT Sand and Gravel shorts out Computer Doctor Winger, Dustin Armstrong of the TRT Sand and Gravel novices hit pay dirt last Saturday. The TRI Sand and Gravel novices edged out a close 4-3 win over Computer Doctor while on a short western road trip through Bowmanville last Saturday. The TRTers struck first when Josh Dobson collected an errant pass from the Doctor's defense and lifted a backhander on net. Centre, Rob Blaker banged in the rebound putting TRT ahead. On the following shift Matt Dobson put a shot by the netminder but, it stopped on the line! Not to be denied, with only five seconds left in the first, Dobson drove home a shot from the corner on a Joel McDonald offering. The Computer Chips tied the game with two goals in the first half of the second, howev- er, late in the period, defense- man Devin Robinson broke in from the blue line and landed a smoker giving TRT a one goal lead. On the last shift of the period, centre Daniel Hodgson had the goalie down and out but his shot deflected wide off of someone'sleg. Speedster, Dustin Arm- strong scored the game winner at 6:18 of the third on a nice backhand with Daniel Hodgson drawing the assist. The Doctors inched closer with a goal at the 31 second mark but ran out of time giving TRT the nod in an, exciting end-to-end game. The Computer Doctors outshot TRT 11-9. TRT bused back home and knocked off the Herron Family team 6-3 in exhibition play the following Sunday. Orono Country Cfe captures Henderson Christmas 'C' <thum pionshipfin OmemeeTrees trim opposition The Orono Country Cafe atom reps got off to a slow start in Omemee tournament play on the weekend but gained momentum enough to take the 'C' championship. To begin with, the Cafe club were handed a 4-1 loss in game one by St. Alphonsus. The three musketeers--Justin Guillemette, Garrett Macdonald and Adam Wood manufactured Orono's only goal of the game Which in fact was Garrett Macdonald's first of four goals in the tournament. Game two featured a tight matchup with Omemee which saw the Country Cafe emerge 7-6 victors aflter a shoot-out to determine the winner. Goaltender, Andrew Fudge was the hero, committing grand lar- ceny by robbing five Omemee sharp-shooters to ensure the Orono victory. Orono's first goal was com- pliments of Stephen Burt assisted by David Landman and Scott Henderson. Darcy Mitchell scored the second assisted by Landman and Doug Garlic. Evan Moore score the third assisted by Macdonald and Ryan Knox. Justin Guillemette found the mark twice with Orono's fourth and fifth goals with assists going to Macdonald, Moore and Michael Fuller. In the shootout, Guillemette and Garlick pushed their team over the top to win by a one goal margin. In the 'C' championship final, Orono faced off against Fenelon Falls and boy, was Orono pumped! Garrett Macdonald came out flying to open the scoring and the team never looked back. Orono's offense came from Macdonald (with a hat-trick), Garlick (2), Landman, Burt, and Scott Henderson driving home his first ofthe season. Assists went to Wood (3), Landman (2), Garlic (2), Daniel Reilly, Fuller, Knox, Burt, Stephen Hicks, Guillemette (2), and Macdonald. Coach Knox was very pleased with the work of his defensemen Evan Moore, Steven Burt, Daniel Reilly, Ryan Knox and Michael Fuller and voted Garrett Macdonald MVP for the tournament. Goaltenders Shane Winters and Andrew Fudge received full marks for their efforts! 4-1 to Woodville Orono Country Cafe took to road in a match with Woodville. The atoms played a strong first period but soon wore down to the ever-pressing Woodville club. Oronos lone marker was scored by Darcy Mitchell assisted by Steven Burt. Adam Colville bound for 'Nationals' Junior Men's skater, Adam Colville of Orono, did it again--he is Ottawa bound for the Nationals! By virtue of bis fourth place finish at Divisionals in Thornhill, Ontario this past weekend, Adam will once again be competing in the Canadian National Figure Skating Championships January 27th to 30th in Ottawa. The top four competitors advanced to the the Canadians and they were: Fedor Andreev, with the skate of his life, finishing in top spot representing Eastern Ontario Section (Oshawa to Ottawa); Nicholas Young (representing Quebec) took second, while Jeff Franklin of the Central Ontario Section (from Barrie to Toronto) finished in third place followed by Orono's own, Adam Colville also representing the Eastern O.S. (Oshawa to Ottawa) who took fourth spot. Adam performed excep- tionally well especially in the short program finishing second overall then took fourth place overall in the long prograrn to earn a berth at Canadians. The Henderson Christmas Tree major tykes are right on top of their game winning back-to-back December 11 th against Bowmanville #2 and 12th versus Rotary Club. Orono toppled Bowman- ville #2 4-1 with Tyler Johansen springing into action to score the first goal assisted by Matt Field and Gardiner Cole. The second goal--a slight variation of the first, was scored by Matt Field with Cole and Ryan Wood drawing the assists. Shelby Macdonnell found paydirt for Orono's third goal with the assists going to Allana Picknor and Matt Field this time. The fourth and final goal--an empty-netter was scored by Colin Gilbride assisted by Steve Donadel and Matt Puddicombe. The Christmas tree gang had to dig down deep pulling off an impressive 8-3 victory over the Rotary Club on Saturday. They found them- selves saddled with a 3-0 deficit midway through the second period. Lucas Martin and Tyler Johansen both turned out to be a perennial pain in Rotary's side each scoring a hat-trick to help lift their team into the winning position. Colin Gilbride and Shelby Macdonnell scored the other two Henderson markers. Assists this game went to Steve Donadel (3), Gardiner Cole (2), Scott Duquette (2), Matt Field (2), Ryan Wood, Tyler Johansen, Tyler Armstrong, Colin Gilbride, Allana Picknor and Harley McColl. Matt Puddicombe played a strong game net for Orono. Dufferin Aggregates bow to number one Although giving up a 5-1 decision to the league leading Sports Exchange team, the Dufferin Aggregates minor tykes put forth a good effort. Edward Meester was Orono's lone goalscorer this night. The team quickly put the loss behind them and came out flying Saturday with a 5-2 win over Bowmanville's Beaver Lumber. Goal scorers this night were Edward Meester and- Tyler Webster with two goals apiece and Spencer Cole with one.
