Sniper, Andrew Kirkbride had a big night. scoring a hat-trick for Orono. Meanwhile, Michael Hicks made his -goallending debut allowing just one goal and Alex Carnpney, who stepped in half w'ay through aiso allowed one goal. Kirkbride lead the scoring finding pay dirt on a feed from Lucas Leech and Maft Moffat. Then, less than a minute later, Kirkbride struck again scoring his second frorn Tom Meester and Denis Beenen. Second period action saw Dan Maclsaac score Orono's third goal from Meester and Michael Whalen. Beenen fol- lowed suit with a goal of his own from Maclsaac. Andrew. Kirkbride scored his third of the night for a hat-trick with* Maclsaac and Kyle Balson drawing the assists. Orono wrapped up the game in the third when Dan MacIsaac's blast counted six on the scoreboard to Manve rs' 2. Whalen and Balson earned the assists. Helping out defensively this game were Jesse Rice, Luke Green, Matt Fuller and Joey Van Dusen. Omeniee 5-3 over Orono The Major Plumbing novices hosted Omemee December 4. Despite a strong team effort, the Leafs came up short dropping a 5-3 decision. Scoring for Orono was Brett Cairns with Andrew Kirkbride and Joey VanDusen drawing assists. FamiIy Auto bantams '"A' runnersmup next to Markham On Monday the, 7th, Orono Family Auto Bantams started a very busy week ini Omemee to, play the Peterborough Nationals. This was the second game of a homne and home series that started the previous night. Orono played a strong game and were able to come out on top of a rough game, 4- 3. Oronos goals camne from the sticks of: Dan Tresise (unassisted), Aaron Robinson, (from Matt Reid), Curt Robinson (from Malt Reid and Dan'Tresise) and Lee Aluin (from Scott Wood). Friday night Orono was back home 10 face-off against a strong Fenelon Faits team. Orono started slow and almost dug themseives mbt a hole eariy. They were able to wake up and finished the period strong. Chris Burritt made some key saves to keep the game scoreiess early in the sec- ond period. Orono started to get some shots on the Fenelon goaltender but were not able 10 put il past him.' Fenelon opened the scoring late in the second period off a careless giveaway by Orono. This wouid happen again a couple of minutes laler and once again the Fenelon player capitalized on it. That was how the second period ended, with the visitors Up 2-O. But in the third, Orono looked like a whole-different leam as they peppered the Fenelon Faits goal with shots. They comipletly dominated most of the play lhroughout the period and finally put the puck past the Fenelon goalie. Tt was Jeff Thompson getling the goal as he flipped the puck over the gbalie and mbt the net. Assisting on the goal were Lee, Aluin and Malt Reid. A-few minutes lter Orono had the puck in the Fenelon zone and this lime Malt Reid sc ored on a scramble in front of the net. Assisîs were 10 Jamie Rowe and Dan Tresise. That seemed 10 give Orono a big boost and lhey kept going afler the Fenelon net. However they could not find the back of the net again and the gamne ended at 2-2. On Saturday, Orono partici- pated in the Port Hope tourna- ment. In gamne one Orono faced Brighton." Orono played another good gaine and showed no signs of being tired from the night before. Jeff Slemon (back from a lengthy illness) played excellent in pet to keep Orono ahead. Orono kept pot- ting goals and ended up with a 5-1 wini. In their second gamne Orono faced a little tougher team from Ennismore. Orono started strong this time scoring two, eariy goals. Ennismore neyer seemed to recover from this as Orono kept pouring il to them. Chris Burritt played another, great gamne in goal coming within 30 seconds of getting a shul-out. The score ended at 4- i and sent Orono to the "A" championship gaine. Goals were, scored. by: Jeff Thompson (2), Jarnie Row and Derek Heerschop. On'Saturday night Orono travelled to Bobcaygeon for a league gaine. Orono played very well in this gamne and played excellent on' defense. Chris Burritt got the start in goal and played great, shuttîng down the Bobcaygeon attack. Matt Reid opened the scoring mid-way through the first peri- od on a nice shot that found the top corner. Assisting was Colin Cureatz. Colin then got one of his own late in the sec- ond on a weird shot that hit the back of the goalie's leg and deflected in. Orono's defense- mani continued to put points on the board as Mark McAlister snuck in fromn the point and one-timed a perfect pass into the net. Making the pass was Dan Tresise, assisting was Jef Thompson. Assisting on Colin's goal was Ricky Howe. Orono heid a 3-0 iead heading to the dressing room. Ini the third period orono showed great defensive play and held off bobcaygeon the rest of the way. jeff Thompson added a goal late in the period to seai the win. Each team was assessed only one penalty apiece. The 'builders' took a comrnanding 3-1 lead afier one period of play. Actually, aI one point, after two periods of play they were ahead 5-2 and it was a, lead they neyer relinquished. St. Marks inflicted only minor damage in the third scor- ing one more just past the mid- way point to make it 5-3 and the builders rnaintained their advantage until the buzzer sounded to end the game. Will Lofgren lit up the score board first with the builders opening goal at the 14:40 mark on a Jordan Mathews pass. Mark Brennan fired one home three minutes later' frorn Cameron James and Adàrn Rypstra. St. Marks reîaliated with a goal at 6: 10 only to be one-upped by Orono's J. P. Pisani from Shawn DeJong a minute later. Markham Label winning streak hits fourteen The Markham Label Peewees ran their win streak 10 14 on the weekend as they defeated Haliburton and'Ops. The Orono team traveled 10 Haliburton on Saturday 10 take on the Huskies and returned home with a 6-3 victory. This was a physical contest and the Markham Label squad was up 10 the challenge. The first peri- od was scoreless but Orono found themselves short îwo players from ejections. Jesse GimbletI opened the scoring for Orono in the second period on a nice solo effort.
