ýjan,,Cny 6, 9 Academîc awards honour students, Left to right'- Barbara Nugent, Rosanna Yankanah and Elizabeth MacNeill received top awards for their academic achievements. Students in Clarke High Schools' junior grades were recognized for their academic prowess at the annual Junior Academic Achievement Awards which were held on the evening of Wednesday December 9, 1998. A crowd of nearly 200 stu- dents and their families packed the gyminasium to see students honoured for obtaining the highest marks in their classes or for-making the honour roll hav- ing achieved, an average exceeding 80%. Teachers from various subjeets were joined by Superintendent Johin Reid in presenting certificates and plaques to the students who were enrolled in grades nine through ecleven during thie 1997-98 school year. Clarke's principal, Mr. Leighi Facey- Crowther, congratulated the award winners and explained that senior stu dents are recog- nized during graduation cere- monies, but it' s equally impor- tant to acknowiedge the acade- mie skills of thie younger stu- dents. The Clarke students' and parents' councils along with the Pathfinders decorated the gymi with flowers donated by Flowers Plus it Newcastle, and provided desserts and refreshi- ments for the reception wich foilowed.
