The locals had to be on top of their game this night as Madoc proved to be a formida- ble opponent. Derek Heerschop put Orono on the board first on a shot from the top of the circle but Madoc responded by evening things up at 1. Orono had trou- ble getting the puck out of their own end and Madoc took a 2-1 lead before the first period ended. In the second, Orono showed signs of life coming on strong during the power play as Jeff Thompson and Derek Heerschop both rang one off the post. However, by the end of the second, Madoc went up by two when Orono got caught in their own end again. Orono gave up another goal while killing a penalty in the third which seemed to bring them them down. Then, Madoc scored yet another taking a 5-1 lead. Jeff Slemon was solid in net making many big stops in an effort to keep Orono close while Jeff Thompson tried toi spark a comeback scoring Orono's second goal of the game from Derek Heerschop late in the third. But, by then it was too late as they fell to Madoc 5-2. Game two in Orono The series resumed play back in Orono Sunday night as the bantams entered the game with a little more energy play- ing harder right from the open- ing face-off. Unfortunately, too many turnovers were commit- ted which cost them dearly. Chris Field had a chance to open the scoring when he walked in all alone but was blanked by the Madoc netmin- der. Madoc came right back scoring the game opener by putting a fluke past Chris Burritt but, Orono held them off the board for the remainder of the first period. In the second period, Madoc really opened the game up with a flurry of goals--scor- ing four unanswered crushing all Orono's scoring opportuni- ties. However, Family Auto would not give up and fought back in the third, Lee Allin found the mark blasting a slap- shot from the blue line into the net erasing any thoughts of a shutout. But, Madoc soon put Orono back on their heels by scoring again making it 5-1--a deficit from which they could not recover. Note: Game three in Madoc will have already been played (February 23rd), the night before the paper is out.
